Probably my least favorite area in San Francisco. The boutiques seem generic and the clothing styles and trends seem like the trendy "what paris is wearing" type deal. Going to the bars is definitely not a good idea unless you enjoy a good game of "Duck, Duck, Douche". The restaurants seem ok but snobby and overpriced. The scenery is the only thing that ever brings me back since it is close to the waterfront. Otherwise, I usually try to avoid it.

Marina has some cool spots and some great waterfront. It does have a snobby aura to it however not everyone who lives there is snoody.

A little posh, no?

If you can afford to live here, you have made it in San Francisco.

A beautiful neighborhood in the north of San Francisco adjacent to the bay. Although constructed on landfill, the Marina is one of the more well-kept neighborhoods and is very desired by renters and homeowners alike. There are plenty of nice restaurants and a few good movie theaters here. The people who live here tend to be professional, successful, and in my own experience nice looking, too. If that's boring I would like more boring, please.

The "Republican" district alonside Pacific Heights. By "Republican" in San Francisco, you're talking about mainstream Democrats supporting the likes of Willie Brown. But the Marina has much to offer, including a couple of decent theaters, some great restaraunts (try Izzies for the best steaks in the city), and of course the Exploratorium and Marina Park. Oh, and the Marina Safeway used to be famous as the singles pickup place as chronicled in Tales of the City.

The steepest rent prices around. Very yuppy area, lots of twenty, thirty-somethings who've got some cash to blow. People who live in the marina think it's hands-down the best, people who tend to avoid the marina snobs. I say, fun nightlife, pretty people, I'm down.

I love the Marina District. It is well kept, pretty, clean, and convenient to Chestnut and Union Street shopping. The people who live in The Marina are above average, most are home owners. It's flat, great for walking. It's a very safe and friendly neighborhood.

Marina is a beautiful neighborhood - perhaps the most beautiful in San Francisco. The streets are clean, the houses are charming, and the Marina itself is beautiful with the Marin headlands looming across the water. Unfortunately, for whatever the reason, the PEOPLE don't seem to be as interesting in this neighborhood. There seems to be less creativity, less diversity, and more of a focus on money, cars, and appearances than anywhere else in SF. Who knows why that is, but it just is.

I think it is embarrassing that someone would criticize a neighborhood because it is "white", "rich", and "clean".....maybe I would prefer somenwhere else but that criticism is as stupid and racist as saying "black", "poor" and "dirty". Get a life.

Too white, too expensive, too flat, boring. I like my neighborhoods hillier and more culturally diverse.

I'm not jumping on the Marina-bashing bandwagon. Yes it's less diverse than other San Francisco neighborhoods, but it's clean, it's close to the water, and it's flat enough that you don't get winded walking five blocks. But, considering that it's built on landfill from the big 1907 earthquake and fire, I don't think I'll be renting an apartment there anytime soon. Apparently the whole area just gets hammered whenever there's an earthquake.

Unfortunately white, rich and straight for an otherwise diverse city.
