Hyde Street is one of my favorite streets in the city. Great views.

It's not the most beautiful part of the city, and parking is a bitch. Great views, but I'd much rather live in a neighborhood with more greenery.

I live near Van Ness & Union with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and love the location. I love being walking distance to all the great shops and eateries on Polk (more preppy on the Northern end, more funky and sketchy on the Southern end). Also, being able to walk to places in North Beach, Cow Hollow, the Marina and the Wharf are great. Parking sucks royally, but that is only because so many people realize that this is hands down the best place in the City to live.

Good views and some delightful stairways, alleys and older places, but far too expensive. Convenient to downtown, Fisherman's Wharf area, and Polk Street.

I used to live near the base of Russian Hill, right around the corner of Polk and Lombard, and I loved the neighborhood. Lots of good restaurants and bars along Polk, more sun that you get to the west, and just a good overall feel. Not as preppy and vanilla as the Marina, and not as funky and run-down as the Haight or the Mission. Parking is especially tough, but if you find a place with a garage you're all set.
