The worst smell; second only by blood, vomit and a alcohol mixture from a bad accident.

I once came close to having to go the the morgue and take photos of some unfortunate people killed in a plane accident. As if proof that God doesn't give you anything you can't handle, I happened to be gone and so the grim assignment was given to someone else - with a stronger stomach and, as it turned out, a darker sense of humor than mine (it got him through it so, who am I to judge). No, thank God this is one thing I have not experienced. I think our extreme abhorrance of it boils down to some kind of survival instinct - making us want to wretch and run in the opposite direction away from our own possible demise.

Ugly story. I worked, along time ago, in a sawmill. I had a job on the booms, feeding the logs into the mill. One charming evening, with the moon flickering prettily over the river, I pulled the boom chain, floated the stick away and started my job. A corpse, trapped under the boom, bobbed to the surface like a jack in the box from Hell. Nothing smells worse than this. Nothing.

Has got to be one of the worst smells ever. I smelled a decompsing cat (not by choice) once.....made me gag.

One of my neighbors was dead for two weeks and no one knew. This is the worst smell ever.

Luckily, I've never had the misfortune to be in the presence of a decomposing corpse. I can only hope that I can always say this, because I can only imagine how awful the smell, and experience in general would be.

I have never smelled a human corpse. I hope i never do. I hear it is pretty bad. I have only smelled the corpses of animals. Usually squirrels that is bad enough. so I am sure humans must be just as bad if not worse.

From personal experience I can tell you it's bad. But what's worse is that it is a very disturbing smell. because you know the source.

I can't say from personal experience, but I've heard it's terrible. A lot of people vomit the first time they smell it, so it must be bad. I guess that's why they rub Vaporub below their nose when they're doing an autopsy.

I hear some country's have a custom of keeping the corpse in their living rooms for months at a time!

Can't say from personal experience, thankfully, and from what I hear, I'd like to keep it that way.

sorry never had that displeasure.

Unless I was a zombie, the smell of a human corpse, tops the things that I never want to smell list.
