Just used Starving Students to move our 3 bdr house and it was a good experience. I chose them because they offered competitive pricing, but then I saw all the negative feedback they've received and got a little nervous. I was going to cancel, but couldn't find a mover in such short notice. I'm a hands on guy so I thought "I'll regulate these guys if they tried some funny crap".
Experience: Well... they came on time and everything was good. One small issue... there were only two guys to move a 3 bdr house... all in all it took 8 hours from start to finish and thats moving some heavy pieces upstairs at our new place. They told me to leave all drawers in, but they didn't use any plastic wrap to ensure the drawers didn't open. Nothing was damaged and the guys were nice and respectable. D.J., the crew leader, is a good guy and I would use them again.

Starving Students should be called Thieving Students!! DO NOT use them!! They packed and moved us from Tacoma to Puyallup. We wanted movers because we combined two households so there was quite a bit of stuff. We didn't have the problems that some of the others had. We had no damage to our houses or furniture, but they stole from us! They stole our PS3, a digital camera, a video camera, a CD alarm clock, a spool of speaker wire, misc hand tools and a large knife that my husband got when he was in the Philippenes. We called the local office and the manager said he would follow up with the guys that did our move and that he checks the truck after every move and there were no boxes left behind. The movers denied even knowing that we even had PS3, kind of funny since they managed to pack everything that was around it, including the games! We then called the national office and talked to Melanie too. She was very rude and accused us of making up that we ever had these items and said we should have purchased the extra insurance. Its kind of shady that we should have to purchase insurance to protect ourselves from their employees stealing from us!! She said she would send us a claim form and the only recourse we had was to file a police report and persue them criminally and then they would only pay us $.60/lb of stolen items. Our playstation cost over $400 when we bought it but it only weighs about 5lbs so we would get like $3 for it! Seriously! Again don't use Starving Students and if you decide to risk it, pack and move your valuable things yourself.

The worst moving company I have ever used! They moved me from one condo due to water damage to another one not even 10 yards away. No steps were involved yet it took them over 10 hours and they didn't even move all my belongings from a 1200 sq ft condo! They damaged so much of my furniture, the walls and front door when I sent them the various photos and submitted a claim I never received a response back from anyone. After several phone calls and emails Melanie Thompson responded back, she was no help and was as crooked as the actual movers by stating she did not see any damage in the photos and the movers themselves pointed out several of the big furniture items they damaged like my large TV they dropped a library unit on it!

Please DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!!!! They are misleading they charge you more than they quote you, they move at snail speed and do not treat your belongings with care.

The worst move ever. My stuff was picked up on August 27th and has yet to be delivered. Today is September 16th and I cant get any information on when to expect my delivery. Every time I call the office I get the run around, no one returns my messages, and I get a different name everyday. No one should work with this company.

THE WORST! NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY, DO NOT CHOOSE STARVING STUDENTS!!! SEATTLE GETS ANOTHER BAD REVIEW...FUNNY HOW THEIR WEBSITE ONLY HAVE GOOD REVIEWS!

Our experience for our move in Kirkland, Wa, was less than satisfactory. I spent way too much money ($659.92) on these "professional movers" to be dissatisfied. I still had to return several times to my old townhome to remove the remainder of our things the movers weren't capable of fitting into the truck. Though, with a little bit of sense, could have done easily. I spent another $100 in gas doing this...and as I was lifting and loading and driving back and forth I was getting angrier and angrier that I had spent so much money on movers when I was doing what they should have done for that price tag.
They dropped many things, and forgot to bring a piece of my bed frame that was left on the truck. No big deal, people miss things, but it took them three weeks to return it and that was only after I had to complain to the Seattle manager. Additionally, the piece that was returned late was bent on the corner and now does not fit properly into the other piece. This bed frame was a one of a kind and cannot be replaced by any frame. These movers were slow, and took their time causing me to pay more money. They didn't put the boxes where we needed and now many of the heaviest boxes are still stuck in our garage.
After complaining to the manager, they returned the bed frame, damaged. I was to receive a phone call back from the manager to discuss a refund of some sorts for not getting what I paid for... No phone call was receieved. So now I am on the website making a public complaint until my situation is handle in the proper, professional manner. I do not plan to let this go until I am addressed.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! DO NOT USE THEM! I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ONLY HAD A 2 HOUR MINIMUM UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE I WAS SUPPOSED TO MOVE, WHICH IS WHEN THEY SAID IT WAS ACTUALLY A 4 HOUR MINIMUM AND THAT THEY COULD NOT MOVE ME IF IT WOULD NOT TAKE THAT LONG. I AM ONLY MOVING FROM ONE STUDIO TO ANOTHER, 2 BLOCKS AWAY. EVEN IF I TRIED IT WOULD NOT TAKE 4 HOURS. THE SEATTLE MANAGER WAS RUDE AND WOULD NOT ACCOMODATE. AT ONE POINT, HE ASKED ME HOW MUCH MONEY OR WHAT TYPE OF FUNDS I WAS DEALING WITH. I WORK IN A SERVICE INDUSTRY AND KNOW THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE. MY MOVE FROM CHICAGO TO SEATTLE WAS EASIER THEN DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY FOR 1 DAY.

HORRIBLE!!
They gave us a quote and told us they would move us in one truck. My husband told them "NO WAY" and to come back and give another quote. They then said two trucks. When they loaded it came to three trucks! They moved our items to our new state but left one truck in a different state. They will not tell me when they are moving it. They also want more money because they had to use more trucks! They are horrible. Ken McNair the customer liaison does not return calls. Customer service is terrible. Moving is hard enough don't trust these people.

Amazing, absolutely amazing! I read a few reviews before I used them, some were good and some were bad. And then I noticed that pretty much every single moving company in the phone book had both good and bad reviews, so then I asked my friends for suggestions. It turned out that 2 of my friends had used Starving Students and both of them gave the company very high marks. I took a leap and went along with their suggestions, and sure enough, the move went great!

I will definitely recommend Starving Students to all of you whom are looking for a great experience at a reasonable cost.

First off all... The reviews on this site that gave the company a good rating are bogus.. They are from a paid firm to restore their horrible reputation. These assholes took me for $865 for a 1bdr apartment move and I only paid them the $400 deposit. They get no more from me. I wrote a letter stating how horrible the service was. TheY arrived and 1 guy was working extremely hard until the other asshole told him to slow down it then took 7 hours to move a small 1bdr apartment with a small amount of furniture. This company is super duper shady. DO NOT EVER USE STARVING WITH STUDENTS MOVERS. I wrote a letter telling them they will get paid the rest of my balance at a rate of $10 every 6 months until its paid. I am going to pay them just as slow as they moved my furniture.

TERRIBLE service! We were moving from New Orleans, LA to Asheville, NC for a new job. The new employer said that they would pay for the move, up to a certain point. We called Starving Student Movers. At first, they were incredibly reasonably priced and they were able to work with the short schedule we had. As the date of the move approached, we called to make sure they would be able to bill the school. They said they would, but then told us it'd cost almost twice what they said before. They told us that they'd arrive between 1-3pm on Monday. At 2:55pm, we received a call saying that they would not be able to show up for another day (even though leaving Monday was already pulling too close for us). Another call followed, saying that they wouldn't be able to do it for the amount the school was willing to pay, EVEN THOUGH at least four times they told us they'd not even approach the total amount.

We ended up just renting a U-Haul and doing it all ourselves for a tenth of what Starving Student Movers was going to charge us at the end.

With the terrible customer service, the run-around they gave us every time we talked, and the price jumping at random for no apparent reason, I'd have to say that Starving Student Movers is one of the worst moving companies operating today. I honestly don't know at all how they can maintain their business in such a way. We were totally unimpressed, and we will NEVER use their service again. We have also recommended to our friends that they also avoid this company.

Couldn't have been worse. Should have paid attention to the older reviews. Obviously the last month has been reviewed by paid image consultants, because nothing about the move was professional.

Our move couldn't have gone any better. We initially hired Starving Students with two movers and at their suggestion, we got a third person to come along, too. All three movers moved fast and worked hard. The price was reasonable and the movers were polite.

I wish everything was this easy. I looked them up online despite reading some of the reviews on this and other sites and made the call to them. I booked with them over the phone and looked up some other companies before my move date and went with them because no one compared to them. One of the things I always check for is credibility and the company's been around a really long time and does a lot of moves. The whole thing went smoothly.

I hate moving but Starving Students made it a lot easier. The last time me and my husband moved was a real pain. Anyone that's been to San Francisco probably remembers all of the hills and we live on one of the largest. When we moved in, my husband had to move most of the stuff himself because most of the boxes were too heavy for me and I couldn't even help with most of the furniture. So when it came to moving this time, we decided to hire movers.

They showed up with their moving truck and movers and brought all of the equipment to handle our stuff and made it a lot easier. They weren't the cheapest, but weren't the most expensive either and it made the whole moving experience a lot easier. They didn't waste time chit-chatting or doing anything else other than moving and the whole thing went smoothly.

I used Starving Students for my move from Long Beach. I called them up and got a quote for my long distance move two months in advance. The movers were on time and courteous. They made every effort to make sure none of my stuff got damaged during the move and brought wardrobe boxes for all of my clothes for the long haul.

I chose Starving Students based upon recommendations from my friends. I looked them up online and chatted with one of their representatives through the site while at work. Frankly, this feature was so easy to use that I pretty much decided to go with them based on that alone! I was able to book them online without having to pick up the phone while at work for the following weekend. The guy I chatted with was helpful and worked with me to choose a time that offered me a discount and fit in yo my schedule.

When the movers arrived, they moved quickly but carefully and were considerate. The only problem I had with the move was that it took a little longer than I had hoped for, but I don't think that's something they could have controlled.

Overall I would highly recommend Starving Students.

So my neighbor told me to use these guys cause he used them and said they were great.

I must agree. My girlfriend was moving in and we didnt have a lot of money to spend. I hired these guys for a small move and they got it done.

It took them 2 to 3 hours to move from a apartment in west la to fully move in all my stuff in santa monica. I really needed to stay at budget so it you are looking for movers but you dont wanna put a whole in your pocket. Use these guys

These guys really did a great job. With the heat and and some crazy obstacles that happened during the day, these guys got threw it and didnt break a thing! I have never used a moving company before, but decided to go a head this time.

It was a great experience. I was moving my mother out of the house that I grew up in and we had a lot of stuff. The movers paid extra close attention to where the boxes needed to go. When we arrived to my new house the movers jumped quickly into action. I mean it only took 4 hours two move a whole 3 bedroom house! I was very impressed.

The movers were polite, careful, and hardworking. I recommend them to everyone!

I would give these guys ten stars if I could. I have never seen a man lift a queen size mattress over his shoulder and run down two flights of stairs! My move was quick and I have no complaints at all. These guys showed up early ( which is fantastic), they were energetic and I did not hear one complaint from them.

This is my second time using Starving Students and I will use them again!

Should have checked out these reviews,I needed some professional to help me move some things in a commercial building from upstairs to down stairs no moving truck needed. I was quoted by other companies four to six hours but I chose to go the with the cheaper company , BIG MISTAKE ! ! first they where very late, very slow and did not know what they where doing. One guy was in charge and the others where obviously day laborers, I had to leave for a few minutes and when I came back they where throwing my things out the second floor window! I had made an agreement over the phone to do the move by the hour , the guy in charge kept trying to wrangle me into a flat rate of $3500 saying that that they could work faster if I would agree to it ,so I ask these bimbos to leave, then I was presented with a ridiculous bill because I "canceled the move". I was then told that they only excepted cash. They also tacked on 30 minutes of charges because I disputed the bill. I only paid what I had agreed to pay on the phone plus a trip charge (no truck) I went around the corner to the bank and got a cashiers check , which made the guy mad and he refused to give me an invoice. When I called the office to report these guys I was given an out of state number for an area supervisor, which was a recording of some dude saying" Hello" and no one calls you back. Very unprofessional company , save yourself some heartache and hire some winos they will do a better job.

Really, really bad experience: with 200$ additional bonus damage done on roofing of the apt building we moved on to. I would only recommend them for my worst enemies. We really REALLY should gone with the good moving company we had used earlier (american family movers, I think). You live you learn.

So what was the main problem? Bozos gave the quote without checking at all what size move it is, beyond asking for number of bedrooms in our current place. We did tell them that previous movers had underestimated effort, but they decided to not worry about that, and just send 2 guys (apparently was a 3-man job).
Going forward this will be immediate no-go for any company we use.

Well, on moving day, said 2 guys arrived on time (so far so good!), but their first comment was "gee, glad we took the dolly with us". You kidding me: thinking of doing a move without equipment?!
We should have told them to go home at that point, in retrospect.
50% of movers had experience and knew what he was doing. If only there were 2 more of those guys it would have worked.
The other one was, I guess, trainee-in-process. He was also burnt out after maybe 2 hours.

So, it took them close to 11 hours to finish the thing (this was a short distance move, less than 2 miles to move), instead of their expected 6 hours. They were trying to get some help after noticing overrun, but I guess company doesn't have spare students for short notice emergencies.

During latter half (unpacking), movers seemed to be participating in demolition derby. We have plenty of scratches in our furniture to remind us; they did manage to break couple of small things as well, but fortunately major pieces were sturdy enough to survive.

In the end we were happy to just get it over with: ended up costing us no less than previous professionally handled move, up front. Oh yes, and then this 200$ fix of root -- we didn't notice the damage, one of our neighbors did. This lead to a month of bureaucracy trying to get Starvings' insurance to pay for damage, to no avail (since our property manager was careless enough not to take photo before repairs -- eye-witness is not enough for the company).

I'd just like to thank everyone for taking the time to give their feedback on Starving Students. I received a quote from them for nearly $5000 for a relatively small local move. In fact, the last time I moved, two years ago- same house, same distance, it cost just over $1000 with Mayflower. Great service and no damaged items.

I called Starving Students to ask why the quote was so high, and they advised that it was due to a California law, and that regulations required them to issue quotes far in excess of what the actual total might be. The rep said I could disregard the number, but did not offer to produce a new quote, nor did they provide me with a more realistic price range. When I suggested that this concept defeated the purpose of obtaining a quote, the representative simply acknowledged that it was out of their hands and that they were just following the law.

Fortunately I had received quotes from other moving companies that were approximately 1/3 of this amount, so something wasn't right. Am I to believe that the other nationally-run moving companies simply disregard this California law by providing accurate quotes? Or am I right in thinking that it would be foolish to agree to such a grossly-inflated number, without even a home inspection? Needless to say, based on what I have read on this web site, I am not choosing Starving Students to handle my move. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to contribute.

I used this company and had a horrible experience. Lets begin by saying the first part was my fault. When I paid them, my check unfortunately bounced. However, I paid them right away w/ a cashiers check as soon as I found out, and I expressed my apologies. (I felt awful about it, but just did my best to fix the situation immediately.)
A few days after I paid the company, the man working for Starving Students who had done my move came to my door and harassed me about how horrible I was as a person for allowing the check to bounce. (This is after I paid them and apologized). I eventually stopped answering the door, as he came multiple times and was a shady, dirty and very scary guy. A few nights later, I woke in the middle of the night to smell something strange, and found that this man had thrown dirty motor oil all over my front door, front stoop and carpeting in my apartment complex hallway. He had graffitied my front door with permanent marker, telling me what a "f-ing" so and so I was for "f-ing" him with the check. He threatened to "find me". Then, 2 weeks later, he did it again. My apartment complex told me this time that I would have to pay for the ruined carpeting and paint from the dirty oil, if the man did it again. Luckily that was the last incident. I was so frightened at the time that I didn't even report it for fear of retaliation.
The point of my review is this: the people working for this company are dangerous. You are taking a risk if you use them. And if you do, make sure your check goes through. :)

Quite possibly the worst dealings I've ever had with ANY company, ever.

They fail to disclose their charges

The charges they do disclose are grossly underestimated.

They broke and damaged 5% of my property.

They sent some of the most unprofessional shady individuals to move my belongings; if I wasn't in a gated community, I'd fear for my new home and belongings, now that these two "movers" have an eye-inventory and location of all my belongings.

They charge by the hour, stop to pet dogs, smoke out, charged me an hour to drive 7 miles because they got lost, took numerous lag breaks, and performed their tasks in the least convenient way to stretch the time.

Starving Students is a rip off. Starving Students is unprofessional. Starving Students can suck it.

HOOORRIIBBBLLLEEEE....I wish I would have read the reviews before I chose these guys. Not only did they illegally charge my card about $50 bucks extra; I can't get anyone to call me back to dispute the extra charges for stretch wrap and matress pad cover. I was not told of anyone this by my quoter and come moving day I was told, "ok just to let you know it's $35 for the strectch wrap and $10 for the mattress cover. These are all optional of course, but then you have to sign a form that says we are not responsible for your stuff getting dirty....the truck is dirty so I would suggest it".......do I really have a choice at this point? no. WOULD NOT NOT NOT RECOMMEND....I will be filing a claim with the better business bureau.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! An F from the BBB shows that the company is run horribly. They do not disclose all charges. I was not told of any "extra" charges. When the movers arrived, they used stretch wrap to "secure" all of my furniture. They did not ask to do this, just did it automatically. When I got the bill, I was charged for the stretch wrap!! Everyone I have talked to has had damages to furnature from the move. The company is cheap and will not reimburse you what the damages cost. Starving Students is a money hungry company, cheating you out of whatever they can get. If you don't believe me, go to YouTube and listen to Channel 4's report on them. If you want a good moving experience, USE ANOTHER COMPANY.

HORRIBLE! For a $1200 quote Starving Students charged 2500 based on the truck weight... which was proven by the weight of a truck our belongings were not picked up or dropped off by. Also the added weight was in the same axel as the gas tank...Huh.. They were two days late, and wouldn't answer our calls when we wanted to know where our stuff was. They lost tons of our things and never called us back once our stuff was picked up. They refused to pay the insurance we paid extra for. They wouldn't answer the BBB report we made. Finally we took them to small claims. They demanded a trial.. then never showed up! Thankfully we won by default. Lets see if we can collect now...To top things off after we filed the small claims suit they sent us a bill for another $1160! DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS. THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE.

Moved from a townhouse to another townhouse and this company is a rip-off! A truck came with 3 men, one older (more experienced) and two teenagers. The older man was training the other 2 on our expense. They were extremely slow because they were getting paid by the hour. We ended up paying $1700 from an original quote of $500! When we complained, Starving Students didn't care, we still had to pay the full amount! Save yourself the headache and your money, rent a U-haul and ask friends to help you. After my experience, I will never use another moving company again, that is how bad it was!

Bad experience. I had them move my 3 br 1600 sf house. They could not get everything on the truck so I'm stuck with a garage that I have to move myself. The 800 number told me that for $100 an hour all the boxes were free. The Fort Worth manager told me that wasn't true, but the wardrobes were complimentary. They charged me for the wardrobes. I called the Ft Worth manager and he said that complimentary means I can use them, but have to give them back. Then he insisted that he already told me that. They broke my dining room table in half and my washing machine leaks out of the bottom now. I can't get the claims person to return my calls after 3 days now.

My experience could not have been worse, and I have moved many times. Job was 2X what was quoted. They quote by hour not job, so watch out! Men who arrived to work did not. Much was broken or damaged. Nothing was labeled, and contents of various rooms were mixed in boxes

I think that they are only able to do very small jobs and that a household is beyond them. Unfortunately, they will not admit to this.

Continued from peteypete message as it was truncated

Fast forward to October 2008. I get a letter of bill due out of the blue. I couldn't believe I would get a notice over a year later. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. A few weeks later I received a phone call from the claims department. The lady, Melody Thompson, stated that I owed them the balance and had received the better business bureau complaint. I stated what had happened. She apologized for how the movers acked but I still owed the balance. Her tone was somewhat apathetic. I explained to her that based on their work, it would have taken 13 hours to move a 1 bedroom condo, and if she thought that was fair for 3 movers, and myself assisting, for a 625sqft condo already packed?? We went back and forth and I began to get upset and her tone become more patronizing. she told me that if I was afraid, hmmmmm, I should have filed a police report. I asked her why they are now contacting me over a year later. She said there was some accounting problem. She then said we aren't getting anywhere and was about to hang up on me and I said, who is your supervisor. She says, she doesn't have one. I then say, who is your manager, she says she doesn't have one. I say, you work for starving students right, you must report to someone. she refuses to say and tells me HA! All I'm thinking at this point is does everyone suck at this company.

Well, I talked to my lawyer and they are sending out a letter to this company. A company performs poorly at a task and is given a chance to redeem themselves yet they continue the behavior. To me this is a sign it is company culture.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. They need their business license revoked. I am a full-time Realtor and will be doing everything I can so everyone knows, and every Realtor at my brokerage knows and refers to their clients, NOT to use their service.

WORST BUSINESS EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!

I have moved 14 times in my life and have used every kind of service, from Allied Vans, to day laborers.  Here is my experience with Starving Students.

I acquired their services in May 2007.  It was a nightmarish day.  The movers were moving an already boxed and packed 1 bedroom condo from a ground floor self storage unit, 5 miles away to a 2nd floor 625sqft 1 bedroom condo.  Previous moving company using 2 people took under 4 hours for the entire move.  Day started with Starving Students calling and asking if I would like an extra mover for a total of 3.  I said why not.  They did not disclose how much more I would be paying over the phone for the added 3rd mover.  The movers came and right away it seemed these movers were going to go as slow as humanly possible.  The movers at different times of the day would just stand and watch 1 worker, talk on their cell phone, smoke, walk so slow as to drag their feet.  I understand that movers need to take breaks, but these guys goofed off constantly.  After 2 hours into it, I saw that at this pace it would not complete as I needed to be out of my storage unit that day.  I asked one of the movers very nicely if he could move faster cause I was paying by the hour.  He said, I'm not his boss.  I said, I am a paying customer.  He was dismissive and said he doesn't need to be doing this.  I said, if you don't want to do this, tell your head mover and they can work and get paid.  After that, all 3 of the movers ignored me.  They were here to have a good time, not work.  I was amazed.  One of my cabinets had items in it.  they said it needed to be boxed.  I asked 3 times repeatedly for some boxes so I could box the few items since they were not doing it, and was ignored each time.  The movers had brought a semi.  They only managed to get half of the items from the storage unit.  Not because there was a lot of stuff, but because they did such an inefficient job packing the semi.  I've moved a 3 bedroom house in a semi, they can surely do a 1 bedroom condo.  I had moved everything before with a much smaller U-Haul.  The movers continued to work slowly so I started moving stuff myself.  Note, I had had carpal tunnel surgery less than 2 months prior so my wrist was in a weakened condition.

I was nice to these movers the entire time, never used epithets, and even bought them lunch.  After the movers completed unloading the truck, they told me they would not be going back and would have to schedule another move and then gave me a bill of $1100 for half of a 1 bedroom condo in 6.5 hours.  I couldn't believe how ridiculous cost this was for such a poor job performance.  I had paid them an initial deposit. I told them i would not be paying the balance.

It is at this point where things got really ugly with these movers.  The head mover suddenly became very belligerent with me.  He started yelling at me with epithets, mother f*cker, you don't pay us, we don't get paid.  Staying calm, I told them my dispute would be with management.  He continued his rant, calling me a rainbow collision mother f*cker, a bigotted term because of my sexual orientation.  He continued yelling and got into my face.  At this point I was getting scared.  I told him he would need to take it up with his boss.  He continued yelling and said he was going to go up and repossess my sh*t and at that point I said, I'm leaving now, and ran back up to my condo and locked the door.  The head mover ran up behind me.  He stuffed the receipt in my screen door, ripped in two.

After I had stopped shaking, I called customer service at Starving Students and explained what happened.  Customer service was very nice.  He gave me the information for the manager.  I later spoke with the manager and explained what happened.  He said they would investigate.  I wrote 2 letters to the company explaining what happened.  I received another call from a higher up manager stating that he would look into what happened.  After that last phone conversation, I didn't hear anything back in form of written nor voice.  I assumed the matter dropped and was going to try to forget about that awful day.

In the move they did break a crystal vase I had which I did not bother reporting after feeling shaken up by the incident.  Following the move, my wrist and arm swelled and I went to the doctor.  the doctor said I had pulled a tendon.  I had exerted too much pressure on my forearm trying to compensenate for my weakened wrist from surgery.

WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER!!I had a bad experience the first time I used them and a worst one the second. NEVER AGAIN! The first time they said they got lost and it took them 2 hours to get to what was supposed to take 35 minutes. They ruined furniture. I did get a check from them that time. This time the day of the move they called with a broken down truck so they moved me to the afternoon. They called again they couldn't move me had to switch to the next day. They showed two hours late. For my inconvenience they were supposed to send a 3rd man for free. They didn't so the moved took twice as long. They moved like snails. We wrapped and moved half of the stuff with them. They double my initial estimate. So, they took my original quoted off my credit card the day of the move. They never charged me for the extra time until 4 months later. I filed a complaint we will see what happens

i called starving students about a month before i moved and got the best service i could imagine. They called me about 3 times from when i booked my move to when i finally moved, everyone who called was so nice and friendly in taking my inventory. I even had to change dates twice bc of escrow and they had no problems at all.
Thanks so much, I'm glad I called you instead of some day workers in a a uhaul!!

I wish these post were in huge neon lights flashing in bright RED on the highest billboard in my city (Oakland CA). I got a moving quote from SS HQ. They couldn't quote me a cost but the representative quote the possible time it should take 3 men to move a 2 bedroom apartment if everything was ready. Quote "3 to 3.5 hours". I ate the bait. I estimated no more than $420.00 (3.5 hours x $120.00/hr). The head moving guy arrived at my place about 9:00 am, pull me aside and said we need to do some paperwork while his men get the truck prepared. To make this part short, they all moved like snails. A major excuse the head man use was that he had to rap all the items in plastic rap, which HQ don't tell you in advance. Arriving at the storage, the head man seemed doubtful that everything will fit in the space that I had rented (10 x 10). They (SS) decided that they could work it out and make things fit after finding that my only other option was a storage in which they could not drive their truck directly in front to unload (the lazy #!$##). The final charge was $900.00 plus (I was not interested in the exact amount). They have my $400.00 deposit and that's all they got from me. I'll be owing them for a long time.

Awful!! They moved my boyfriend and I into a new place and we were paying by the hour, we should have know better. I was not there for the first part of the packing and my boyfriend was helping them actually move since they were going so slow. We got insurance for our things because we had a piano and wanted to make sure it was safe. Of course, it took the maximum time to move it all, so we paid the maximum price. Three things were broken, beyond repair, and one damaged...but we got insurance right? Well, they proceeded to tell us that they would not cover the broken furniture because it came from Ikea (in fine print on the contract I guess it says no Ikea) BUT, it wasn't from Ikea. Then they said they needed the receipts from the broken/damaged furniture. We have had this stuff forever...what receipts!? Now, we finally came to a middle ground on the value and they said they would send us a check. That was in June, it's now October...and it is run-around city OR no one seems to be in the office every time we call. And just for some icing on this cake, when we went to go unwrap everything from the moving blankets, I unwrapped my boyfriend's trash can and a few other odd things the movers wrapped in blankets (like I said earlier my boyfriend was helping move to speed things up and not paying close attention to other things). I asked them, "why wrap this stuff"? They said because we got insurance, they wanted to make sure nothing was damaged! Really? A plastic trash can? My gut tells me it was to take up all the time they could. Would NEVER use them again.

they are terrible. they quoted us 1100 to 1300 usd to move from grosbeck to houston and when all was said and done they wanted 1800 usd. this was from a friend who was moving closer because she has cancer and is going through chemo. she was on the phone and arguing with them and they finaly settled for 1500usd which was off the quote. further more she is a senior citizen and she was supposed to get a seniors discount and that also did not happen. the two guys who moved us were great. but the people behind the scenes suck! dont use them unless you have your quote and final price in writting!

I almost hired Starving Students--but then I read these reviews and saw a video on YouToube about how they stole this woman's furniture! When I called to cancel the move, the girl on the phone hung up on me before I knew if the job was canceled. I had to call back to confirm, but I'm still worried they haven't properly canceled my job.

Worst Experience Ever with SS. We moved from SF to Sea, it took them two separate days to move our stuff. Once we got to SEA, we were told the price of the move had gone up from what was originally areed on. Our move was a corporate move so we had to deal with my husband's company NEC - who at the time was filing chapter 13 for it's stateside company. We told SS we would pay the original agreed upon billing and nothing more. It wasn't our fall for either the two day move or the company having financial difficulties, so we thought the sudden increase and change in fee was unfair. They called us back and claimed our stuff was "lost" in route somewhere between CA and WA. After many answered and unanswered calls we finally were told where our stuff ended up - paperwork didn't match the actual location that was their claim for the why there was a mix up. Unfortunetey we found this information out 2 years after our move - our stuff was in a storage facility in No. CA and since no one claimed it and payed the bills somewhere between the delivery and our discovery- ALL of our belongings were auctioned off, sold by the storage facility and the remaining items were thrown away. We trusted this company, and lost everything - pictures, family gifts and treasures. All SS could say about the incident was "sorry, it's too late to get your stuff".

The worst. threw my stuff in a storage unit, did not stack neatly. Damaged the storage unit. Agreed to meet me at unit twice and stood me up. Then became rude to me when I called them again. Used no blankets and stacked nothing. I opened the storage unit and chairs fell on me. My next web site to visit is the BBBureau and the Florida State licensing board to complain and hopefully get their license revoked.

THEIVES
These guys not only showed up late they took way longer to move than we would have on our own, everything was packed in boxes and placed in the dining room we had a 780sq ft loft, it took them over 2 hours just to get the boxes to our new place. To top it off at the end of the day they had stolen our case of beer and left with our house keys. Replacing locks and fabs in our new place will cost over $200. They will not return our calls and now they wont even answer their phones, I will have to deal with this in small claims court now. Quite the hassle just to move some boxes. 0 stars.

I had a signed contract with them one month before my move. Two days before my move, they called and left a message on my machine saying they had run out of trucks in the Denver area and couldn't move me anymore . . sorry. If I had done the same thing, they would have charged me anyways because of the contract. I angerly called around before finally getting a supervisor, and magically a truck became available. When the movers came, two out of the three looked like they were right out of high school, and acted as such. My supplies arrived 7 days later than verbally estimated to me. Ever since, I have used Mayflower. Pay more. . . you get what you pay for.
