Canseco has to be rated nothing less than a 5 (I don't 100% agree with it which I'll explain; I'm only addressing the facts) because I sincerely doubt that there is one member of MLB that does not associate Canseco with starting the steroid scandal and painting a big black mark on the whole league. I say this not due to speculation, like the whole world thinks Mark McGwire did steroids; Jose Canseco had no qualms about admitting to the world that he did steroids, and that he was the catalyst for steroids in baseball. He talked about it in the courtroom, on national talk shows, on the tv reality show Surreal Life, and in his book Juiced. He is very much a sellout, implicating the league and players who earned his trust so that he can get back into the limelight, make some much needed cash to support his high rolling and colorful lifestyle, and to get back at MLB for virtually banning him from the league even though he still had the talent to finish his career with 500 home runs. But he did something that was not banned in baseball, and even though all the owners knew about it (including our own President George W Bush as prior owner of the Texas Rangers, a former team of Canseco's) they did not discourage it because they knew the extra power would be great for the game - especially at a time where many fans were rightfully discouraged due to the strike. The guy gave himself an edge - he fully admits that he may not have made the majors without steroids, and if he had, he would certainly not have become the power hitter and speed guy he was (being the first to achieve a 40-40 season). 60% of the rest of the league realized the edge he had and they became users as well. To sum up, I am rating Canseco a 5 because he's accused of dishonoring his sport but I will name a few players whose ratings should be off the chart in my book: 1) Rafael Palmerio, for flat out lying to the jury in a court of law about his steroid use, 2) Mark McGwire, for completely sidestepping the entire issue when asked point blank in a court of law about his steroid use, and off the steroid subject but still applicable is 3) Cal Ripken Jr for being an outspoken pro-strike union representative who was a supporting cause of the 1994 strike that caused the cancellation of the World Series and that negatively affected the likes of vendors, parking lot owners, fans of the game, etc etc.

Should be #1 in my opinion. He is a steriod pioneer. This is when my interest in baseball decreased. He and Barry Bonds are terrible representatives of baseball.

I'm tempted to say that the real disgrace was committed by the folks who let this clown put on a glove and play in the outfield. LOL. His shameless post career promoting and book-selling is more than a touch disgusting.
