Lucas is still one of the NBA's all-time top forwards. He rebounded with Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell despite often being awy from the basket! He had Larry Bird range. He was a very good passer and unselfish team man. His remarkable smarts took average athletic ability and elevated it at both ends of the court.

Others were better athletes. But Lucas was way more than that with his skills and smarts. 

John Wooden said he is the best player that he ever coached against or ever saw play.He said that numerous double knee surgeries really slowed him down and were the only thing that kept him from completely dominating the game in the pros.

Lucas was an OK player - not evern close to Dr. J or Rick Barry. He was slow but a smart player. Great substitute but not a starting 5 type.

Great rebounder, tenacious defender and one of the league's best jump shooters in the game. He was a scorer but defense was the name of his game. He also had muscle memory meaning that he could memorize an entire phone book without peeking.
