I would think that a mother would need a good sense of humor in order to deal with all of the situations that kids can throw at you.

My mother said some of the funniest things. She could even laugh through her tears!

My mother certainly had this.

Although being on the end of her tongue when she was exercising her wit could be a little uncomfortable at times.

She was Anglo-Irish, and combined the dour understated sarcasm of Yorkshire, with the high-flown dramatic barbs of Dublin.

The angrier she got, the funnier she was, unless of course you were the target.

And like both sides of her ancestry, she was a fine hand at the self-deprecating humor about herself, the kind that hides the deep hurt and the fierce pride.

What I didn't know when I was growing up is that my Mum was always laughing at what I got up to after she told me off when my back was turned. Yes it's important to install a sense of discipline in your children, but not always with an iron fist and tongue. Children may not always remember what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel. I think its great that a parent can look back at their child and laugh at what they did.

How can a mother not have sense of humor? It's the only thing that will keep her sane once she realizes what she got herself into.
