 | ClassicTVFan47 (36) 07/10/2004 | One of the primary reasons the GameCube is cheaper is the lack of money that has to be paid for the DVD and CD players and the software to be developed for them. In addition, the smaller size makes it cheaper to produce. As for the specs, the GameCube has twice the RAM of the PS2 (32 Megabytes to the PS2's pathetic 16MB). The GameCube's processor, specifically designed for gameplay, is 405 Megahertz to the Playstation 2's 300. Also, the Playstation 2 still has the anti-aliasing and slowdown problems of its dull, grey predecessor, the PSOne. Add to that the numerous hardware failures that resulted in a plethora of returns and refunds, and you have an unstable and inferior system to the Nintendo GameCube. As for the X-Box, Microsoft was making a LOSS on the X-Box from the start, whereas Nintendo continues to make a profit from every GameCube sold. The X-Box, like it's Sony cousin, also has numerous manufacturing problems. Even more, with the X-Box, you have to pay $30 extra for it play DVDs and another big fee to play online, and you could spend over $200 (Even at its now-discounted price!) just to get Microsoft's monstrosity up to full functionality. The GameCube is a game-only machine, and all the better for it.
