I'm hard pressed to think of a president in my lifetime who was a worse public speaker. Or even close to being as bad.

Here's the list:

Eisenhower - Uninspiring, but occasionally effective. 2.5 to 3

Kennedy - Well above average, with flashes of brilliance. 4-5

Johnson - Country boy mystique that hid the ward boss hard-ass. Reasonably effective. 3 to 3.5

Nixon - Above average, except during the descent into hell that was Watergate 3.5 to 4

Ford - Nothing special, and occasionally maundering. 2 to 2.5

Carter - Country boy with high falutin' words. Bad combination. 2 to 2.5.

Reagan - Friendly, avuncular, and mainstream without dumbing down too much 4 to 4.5

Bush Senior - Mediocre, but pretty uniformly average. A solid 3.

Clinton - Above average at times, but could range from excellent to terrible. I'd average him out at 3 to 3.5.

His apologists still carry the water and alibi- for all his shortcomings, he is indeed one of the worst 'famous' public speakers in recent memory and vies for any all-time list on the subject.  We could make lists about the gaffes, stutters, fallacies, and delivery- but that would be redundant.

He's hardly JFK or Ronald Reagan, but he's also not as bad as he's made out to be. It doesn't help when people misquote him or attribute things to him that he never said. For instance, "Most of our imports come from other countries." He never said this. He was making a specific reference to oil imports when he said, "More and more of our imports come from overseas." If something comes from Mexico, for example, that's not overseas.

I dunno, my impression of him works great on crank callers...

The only comment I will make (and by no means do I want to disrespect the President of the United States in any way) but in my honest opinion he is not a good speaker.

I fared better in Middle School.
