I had the misfortune actually to hear him in person. He is no better there than on television. Some have it and some do not. Poor Al is a flop.

The Marshall McLuhan observation was that "the Medium is the Message." In Gore's case it should read: "The Tedium is the Message"
Possibly the most boring major figure that "orates" today. Some speakers could make reading a laundry list exciting. Al, on the other hand, would have trouble making a porno soundtrack sound prurient.

My high school marching band played for him when he landed in Phoenix once upon a time and I have personally heard him give a speech as a result. Do any of you know how hard it is to prop up a passed out Sousaphone player?

President Bush has been pelted with rocks and garbage for being a poor speaker, but there are times Al Gore makes him look like John Kennedy. Of course, I think Gore probably hasn't been tagged with the reputation of being a bad speaker because of the simple fact that very few people have managed to stay awake long enough to hear the man out. Gore could put caffeine to sleep.
For the record my favorite Gore slip: "A zebra does not change it's spots."

. . .so bad at delivering an important message he does damage to a just cause. . .Gore, for better or for worse, simply comes off as a classic Harvard prick. . .Al acts like he's smarter than everyone in the room (and in many cases he is) but he just doesn't translate well or manage to reach a wider audience. . .he reminds me of more than a few arrogant sons-of-bitches professors I've had. . .the talent and gifts are overshadowed by poor delivery. . .
