The early Ronald commercials were very good, but as time went on the suits couldn't resist adding a plethora of other characters, none of which lived up to the star billing of Ronald.

Ronald may be annoying, but he's far better than the crooked civic official Mayor McCheese, the evidently short-eyed Hamburglar, and whatever the hell the Grimace is supposed to be.

It’s weird how adults are scared of things that children aren’t scared of. When I was little, I thought he was cool, but now he gives me the creeps because he has a huge, bleeding mouth and no pupils. Funny how these things didn’t faze me when I was younger.

I had one of those kiddie clown punching bags when I was a tot and my relationship to clowns has been going downhill ever since. (I'm a big fan of IHate Clowns.com - http://www.ihateclowns.com) Any way, I find Ronald as annoying as any of his fellow palid, mindlessly grinning co-horts and feel he is in need of a few slaps, some noogies and a sound butt kicking. I'll give him credit for one thing - he brings to mind a childish joke I heard many years ago which still makes me chuckle a bit...

Kid One: How can you tell it's Ronald McDonald in a nudist camp?

Kid Two: He's the one with the sesame seed buns.

Seems like its not Ronald himself, its just a change of the times. Clowns arent so cool any more. I personally loved Ronald and his ugly yellow suit growing up as a kid.

According to Supersize Me, pictures of Ronald are recognized by more kids than Jesus Christ or the President.  Given how disgusting their 'food' is, McDonalds has to have top-notch marketing to get any customers.  A pretty effective ad campaign, still going strong after 45 years.
