Over worked, stressed out employees are less effective, more likely to get sick (or call out),and subject to "burnout".Human beings need time to relax and unwind.Weekends don't cut it.

Something to look into - if you volunteer at least 40 hours of your own time, some companies will give you 40 hours of their time if you are going to a volunteer event. Example - you are a cub scout leader and you take your group on a week long trip, your company would pay you and not charge vacation time. Under thorough investigation I discovered and took advantage of this little-known company perk. I did some volunteer work but it beat staying in the office all day.

Depends on how long. It's always nice to get away from the workplace and get paid for it.

more money is sweet, but the government can't tax time off. at least they haven't tried yet.

I've noticed that my co-workers with much larger families than mine treat this one like gold. A very good idea.

Only okay IF you're actually allowed to use it. It's no good when you hand out the free paid vacation days to the employees for good performance when you're just going to deny them any requests for the days off.

I would find this pretty motivating. However, it would depend on the amount of time we're talking about. I just got another 1 count 'em 1 vacation day after working in this place for 6 years. That's not exactly making me want to do back flips.
