 | fitman (51) 06/13/2008 | Remember when McCain appeared to have some integrity?
Now he depends on LIES.

 | burnt in effigy (0) 09/22/2004 | I like McCain a lot. I disagree with him on nearly every issue, but the man has integrity and I respect that. However, I rated him a 1 because I would be upset if Bush had chosen him as a running mate because that would give Bush an enormous lead...and that wouldn't be good...because Bush must go...

 | Redoedo (41) 08/30/2004 | Along with Powell, McCain is another running mate that would put Bush over the top for re-election. McCain is immensely respect by those of various political persuasions, and would solidify Bush's hold on his conservative base that has waned as of late as well as bring in some swing voters.

 | OneHungryMonster (2) 08/29/2004 | John McCain could have done wonders for Bush. He's a well-respected man among anyone. He could really have helped make Bush look more moderate, and therefore would have brought in the Independents, undecideds, previously unloyal Republicans, and even some Democrats. I guess Cheney wouldn't go for that, which is why McCain is touring but does not have the VP seat.

 | eraser1997 (1) 07/07/2004 | While I may dislike Bush, McCain would be an excellent choice as VP regardless of party. Too bad he wasn't elected president in 2000.

 | abichara (66) 07/07/2004 | It would be a smart move for Bush to take McCain as his vice president. Lets face it, Dick Cheney has become a liability for the Republican ticket. When Bush picked Cheney as his vice president, it was believed that he would bring a semblance of professionalism and moderation to the White House operation. Instead, Cheney has pursued both foreign and domestic policies that are rigidly dogmatic and stridently ideological. It has come to the point that the Vice President only campaigns in very controlled settings, usually in the shadows of conservative think tanks and Republican party gatherings. One gets the feeling that Cheney's closed management style has led to an administration that has detatched itself from certain political realities. Cheney still goes out on the stump and overtly claims that Iraq was a major threat to US security when in reality there far greater threats in the horizon. One senses that this team has other interests in mind rather than national security. Bush will probably not get rid of Cheney for the mere fact that this guy is an integral part of the administration and replace him with John McCain no less, an avowed political enemy of George Bush's. However if he sees that he is in major political trouble by Labor Day, the President might go with his more pragmatic and hard-nosed political instincts and announce that Dick Cheney is going to step down for health reasons. Nominating McCain would make sense for Bush because it will help him gain a better hold on centrist voters in the Midwest and the Northeast, which he is right now losing by a 3-2 margin against Kerry. Politically it makes sense in that it will bring the Republican party together; Bush should swallow his pride and do it. Cheney has become a big target for criticism; particularly for his connections to energy giant Halliburton. Bush would be smart to make a political break from the past and pick and new Vice-President.
