Has to be one of the most depressing movies of all time. Kids should not die in movies to many die in real life. Strong perfomances by all of the cast.

I thought this was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I HATED the ending though. The movie made you think and see things from a different slant. There is some profanity and a few areas that are a little on the sleezy side, if it weren't for that I'd show it to students in school every where. Even with all that I think all kids in 10th grade up should see and discuss this movie-it really makes you think.

Although the film started of hopeful and with a great message, the ending completely ruined it for me. The acting, from Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey, is good, but could have been executed with more energy. There are a few great moments, but the depressing ending kills the film entirely.

Great movie, great acting, great lesson, and great surprises. Very sad- watch with tissues. But it all happens just the way it really would. And it's all true. "Is the world just sh*t?"

This film was pretty good. It really had a great lesson with the theme that one person can change the world, but it was a little far fetched. However, I liked the quote- "Some people are just so used to things the way they are... even if they are bad." This film had a great beginning and a sad, but great end, but the middle dragged on at some points. Good performances by Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment.

This is a good movie, which shows you how everyone can make a difference. Very uplifting and well done.

This movie isn't the best movie that I've ever seen, but it's almost there... A bad point is the Bom Jovi's acting. The end of the movie brought me to tears. "Pay it forward" is a great concept that should work.

Lame, too preachy. I love Kevin Spacey, but even with all the good intent (I saw the "making of" stuff on HBO), the movie just didn't work. Subtle is better than in your face preaching. Also the gang stereotype was unrealistic.

i can admit it: i cry every time i watch this movie. i loved kevin spacey, and as a whole found the movie to be very moving.

On a scale of one to ten it's a seven so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and round up. Individualistic plot that opens your mind to a new idea. The actors give solid performances, but none of them are really spectacular. I would definitly suggest this movie if for no other reason than it is different from other recent movies.

I think the people who didn't like this movie didn't get it. I thought this movie was very good, and I immediately bought it. It has its little flaws, but it's a very well acted, touching, and funny movie.

I really loved this movie! It's not the greatest movie I've ever seen, but it was so moving, so sad, and very poignant. I'll be the first to admit, parts of it are really unrealistic (I mean, how often do strip-club waitresses who have been alchoholics their whole lives suddenly decide to stop drinking because a very well-educated teacher is falling in love with her (not to mention, those 'kid setting up a romance for the parent' type things are always so fake!)) But all in all, if you ignore the blatantly unrealistic aspects, and apply your mind and heart to the movie's message, I don't think you will be disappointed. The acting is really great on the parts of everyone involved (even Jon Bon Jovi!) The one gripe with Bon Jovi's prescence is that it's near the end of the film, so you spend the last 15-20 minutes noticing how much the kid actually looks like Bon Jovi! But other than that, I think it's a great movie. Very sad, but very moving. Highly recommended.

I'm glad I didn't have to spend any money on this one (I got a promotional tape)...the first part is not bad, but everything is spoilt by Helen Hunt's poor acting (did that woman really win an Oscar, sheeeesh!!!) and by a shocking, stupid, overemotional ending. I give it 2 stars instead of one because Kevin Spacey is an Actor with a capital A, as usual.

Looking for a boring movie that will put you to sleep, and make you have your IQ 50 points??? Pay It Forward must me your movie.
Kristinnh19 07/16/2001
I think that the movie was good despite the shocking ending. Would have been much better to me if the ending was changed. I personally like happy endings. It was worth renting as long as your not already depressed.

Renting this film the other night seemed like a great choice and good idea at the time. However, I soon realized that this bumpy, uneven story would become yet another challenge to my ability to sit on my backside for two hours straight - which was made possible probably only due the conditioning of life behind a computer screen for the past several years. "Pay it Forward" starts out as an interesting, left field adventure in altruism that quickly slooooows its pace and turns into a twist on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" - with the obligatory dark brooding elements we've come to expect in 2001. No disrespect at all to these well-respected actors who actually did a great job with what they were given. And even though it had a few very good moments, I would still say that what the actors were given just wasn't enough. Oh, yes, and to top it off, the uncalled for ending completely reeked.

I love this movie! Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osment were so cute and the acting was just wonderful! This movie brought me to tears!

Good story that just does not quite pull it off. The acting is just somewhat so-so and the representation of the story line really leaves it hard for you to get into the movie. The whole pay-it-forward concept could have been played up more and the flash scenes they did use seemed disjointed and unresolved. Seems the producers view was to pull you more into the families life, but even that never really happens because you’re not given enough plot to bite on. Over all I was disappointed even for a rental.

A pretty good movie. I did not think it was as good as I thought it would be. The actors are all good. Haley Joel Osment as the boy who wants to do as his teacher suggests and do kindnesses for others. The movie has good moments but it really does not have the feel good nature that I thought it would . The ending is too sad. And some of the characters were boring.

Very real. After the movie ends, you're left with a "those five bucks were well spent" feeling, and you know that this could happen in real life. I didn't like the ending at first, but then understood why they did it. I'll give it a five even though I think it deserves a 4.8 (considering the fact that it wasn't THE BEST, though it was really good).

Great concept, lousy movie. In spite of all the hype, I felt that the characters in Pay It Forward were flat and unconvincing and the storyline was formulaic and dull. I would have expected more from Kevin Spacey. And the ending was nothing but predictable. It's a shame because the idea of paying it forward is creative and something to think about. It's a too bad this movie is not.
Farfromnothing 10/27/2000
Could this be another Oscar for Kevin Spacey? I think so. This was definitely a movie with a message. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recomend it. Pay It Forward is a great concept, and a great movie.
