The Jolly Green Giant was pretty cool. I even remember Sprout, his sidekick.

One of the few good role modes for fathers left in the very commercialized ad campaigns today. He may be green, with little to say and hate on women ("Ho, ho, ho") but he brings his son, Sprout, on to the set and shoots commercial spots with him.Having purchased his products in the past - the man (?) really knows how to can veggies!

Jolly green nerd...around too long with too little to say. All things considered I think Al Gore should play him in the bio-pic.

On his radio show in the late 60's, Jean Shepherd talked humorously about The Valley of the Jolly Green Giant, pointing out that it was an example of a benevolent dictatorship. If the giant wanted to, he could have been a raging tyrant, spreading fear in his valley. Instead, he was too busy saying "ho ho ho". Maybe there was something else green in that valley that kept him laid back and jolly. Just a theory.

"Ho, Ho, Ho"

Memorable, but led to a lot of parodies, which is not always a good thing in an ad campaign.
The addition of that obnoxious little sprout character should have got some ad exec fired, though.

In my childhood, I found him kind of scary and disturbing. A big green dude wearing a leaf-covered Tarzan cloth. Maybe, he's the blame for why I won't eat my green beans.
