She was never really an all out R&B singer, most, if not all of her hits were solidly pop records. Her sweet but thin, soft voice wasn't really strong enough voice to carry off R&B in the way Aretha Franklin or LaVern Baker or Etta James could belt it out. She benefitted from the patronage of Berry Gordy who worked hard at making her the star of the Motown Universe partly because he carried on a decade long love affair with her and partly because he figured she had a look and sound that was widely marketable to a white audience.

She's top of the line. This woman is the total package. She's a very good singer, decent actress, has glamour/glitz/sex appeal, topped off with diva-tude. You either love her or hate her. She's still a topic of discussion after over forty-plus years in the business. She's had her time in the spotlight. Unfortunately nothing last for ever. Ross is no longer the hot commodity she once was. New up and coming divas are are taking their rightful places in the spotlight. However, Ross is now beyond that and has reached legend status. She will continue to be loved/hated and the topic of discussion for years to come. Enough said!

I met her and all I can say is UGLY attitude. Never thought she could sing either. Very weak voice. And lord the things we do to get to the top. Straight up GHETTO.

Miss One! Whitney was a very very poor imitation. 30 years on and we are still singing her songs!

She's good.

I've never meet Diana Ross the person, so I can only rate her as a performer. As a performer she delivers. Her voice is unique and versatile. She has glamour and star power. The fact we are still discussing her after over forty years in the busines is an indication she is a living legend!

Her voice was pretty good, but the personality and her horrendous ego is enough to keep me away from her music.

good singing voice. I liked her when she was with the Supremes especially. she also sang some good songs away from the Supremes.

Diana Ross used to be really great and pretty, but she forgot where she came from. She dissed the other two supremes who helped make the group great. That't when people started turning against her. Futhermore, she may not have been using drugs but she dam sure became an alcoholic, and a DWI person too. This is the main reason she cannot make a come back like Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. She has really burned her bridges. Also Berry Gordy used her body while she was young, got her pregnant with Rhonda, and never married her. That was her one true love, so sad.

Diana Ross will forever shine as the most amazing female vocal artist of the 20th century. At her best, no one sounds or looks better. No one had better songs, no one has a more exciting life story, and she is almost magical. Check out her 60s clips with the Supremes on Ed Sullivan's show, her 70s concerts, and of course Central Park 1983 to see the genie work her magic! One more thing: to her everlasting credit, she has never used drugs (like Whitney Houston the GHETTO trash low-IQ tragic figure), never been a hooker (like Natalie Cole), is not a slut (Madonna Ciccone), does not resemble the Goodyear blimp (like Aretha or Etta), is not a bolshevik leftist (Barbra Streisand), is not made of silicone (Cher!), and does not go around bitching about being a victim of everything under the sun (like Gladys Knight). I am sorry, but all of the above are true.

She was always one of the greatest female artists ever. Her touching story of the rise she made from the ghetto to pop stardom is a touching one. She was dirt poor growing up and now is as wealthy as anyone could imagine. She is really a great singer.

The lady who led the way for the young performers of today. When we look a Whitney, Janet, Mariah, Maya, Alliayh, Sade, and etc. you should see Diana. Diana raise the bar for female Diva's in the 70's and early 80's. Every female singer that is interview hopes and desires to achieve the success of Diana. The lady is a living legend.

Diana Ross is without a doubt one of the most influential and admired pop musical entertainers of all times. When she was with Diana Ross and The Supremes, she was the show. Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard/Cindy Birdsong were the backup singers. Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote those songs for Diana's unique voice. Two of her best albums of all times are her first two solo albums. "Diana", released in May, 1970, has "Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Most of the songs on the album were written by Ashford and Simpson and all twelve songs are terrific. Her second solo album "Surrender", released in July, 1971, has "Remember Me" and eleven other fantastic songs. It is rare that you hear two albums in a row where every single song is terrific. This is the case with her first two solo albums. "Theme From Mahogony", "Touch Me In The Morning", "Endless Love", and "Missing You" will always be Diana Ross classics. Her screen performance in "Lady Sings The Blues", released in 1972, showcased her acting ability as well as her ability to do justice to Billie Holiday's classic ballads. Her Tony Award winning Broadway concert "An Evening with Diana Ross" (1976) will always be remembered as one of the best Broadway pop concerts of all times. Diana Ross had a rare combination of charisma, glamour, star power, and talent. Unfortunately, Diana Ross has seen her glory days. She will always be remembered for the true star she was. I wish that Diana Ross were a nicer person. She has a reputation for being ruthless and selfish. Her music will always shine. Long live the Diana Ross legacy.

Although her personality gets 1 star, her music gets 5. Her time with the Supremes and her solo career is great. Albums like "The Boss", "Diana" "Upside Down" & "Eaten Alive" are great pop/R&B records. Her all time greatest hits CD is awesome. Her version of Billie Holiday's songs in Lady Sings the Blues are excellent.

20 years ago the rating would have been higher, but she is now so self-consumed that she makes me ill. Diana, there were 3 Supremes, not just you.
