Became kind of a Warner Brothers caricature, but a great actor in the 30's and 40's. If you want to see a truly brilliant, creepy, and WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME flick, and you don't mind subtitles, see the brilliant 1931 Fritz Lang film M, which is one of the best early sound films out there IMO.

I liked him in Arsenic and Old Lace for some odd reason. I know a guy who can make his voice sound like Lorre's.

He was outstanding! That soft quiet voice and innocent appearance could fool anyone into thinking he was harmless. Read all about Peter's life and career in his biography, coming out Sept. 2005: The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre by Stephen D. Youngkin -- http://www.peterlorrebook.com

He was good at what he did, but he was always an accomplice or underling, a role he played as well as anyone.

The ultimate henchman... slimey, scary and intelligent. This guy gave me the creeps when I was knee high to my parents.

Brilliantly morally ambivalent work. Lorre's performances are often so subtle that he blends the role of aggressor and victim perfectly.
