After reading "Me Talk Pretty One Day," I was hooked on David Sedaris. I like his unpredictable style and off-beat perspective on life, and I'm fascinated by his family members. The stories of growing up with his eccentric parents and siblings are just hysterical. When David Sedaris was in town last year, I attended his performance. He was a terrific speaker and had the audience roaring with laughter throughout his presentation. I highly recommend "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim."

Moderately funny. Not much of a writer though.

Clever satire that requires a bit of intelligence to appreciate fully, but worth the effort...

Rarely do I actually laugh out loud while reading a book. "Me Talk Pretty One Day" had me in tears. The "Jesus Shaves" chapter is the stuff that humor is made of. "Holidays on Ice" turned up a comic jewel in its mock holiday bulletin. Comic Genius.

"Barrel Fever" is one of the funniest books, I've ever read. "Naked" and "Me Talk Pretty One Day" were also quite humorous, if not PERFECT like "Barrel Fever."

Many writers are observant. David Sedaris is the rare writer who is both observant and funny. And rarer still, he is an observant and funny writer with a proclivity for oral intrepretation (You may have heard him reading some of his work on NPR). Quite the combination of orator and humorist, one might boldly proclaim him a modern day Samuel Clemens (if one had been drinking and awake and writing this at 3:30 in the morning) or at the very least, a Mark Twain for the 21st Century... I'd heard nothing but acclaim for his work before I'd read any of it. And now, having experienced it, I concur wholeheartedly and feel that he deserves all the kudos. I laughed out loud many times when reading his books (mostly in public). "Me Talk Pretty One Day" is now one of my all-time favorite books. Other books: "Barrel Fever", "Naked", & "Holiday On Ice". Get the audio versions of his books too, so that you can more fully experience David Sedaris' hilarious bent on life.
