Great player and a class act. He was a player on the first baseball team that I followed - the 1979 Pirates. Hit the longest homerun in Veterans Stadium history.

He was Pops to the Pirates. He made them the Fam-i-lee that won a series, and he remained a gentleman throughout it.

a great nickname for a great Ballplayer who was nearing the end of his career when the name stuck. Stargell was there to guide the other players, young and old, toward the Pirates 1979 WS Victory. he's sorely missed in the Burgh
