If he died today there would be celebration not mourning, as it would mean that he had died in 2006, risen at some point and walked among us again. It would be the modern day miracle that thousands, maybe millions, had been waiting centuries for. Of course in typical Ford manner, nobody noticed that he had risen from the dead and walked among us again. The poor guy could never catch a break.

Rest in Peace Gerald R. Ford. You were truly a great American who carried himself with dignity.

I think he has since passed away. At any rate, I would agree. He caught hell from the media. And while not the greatest president, he did manage to instill a little dignity back in the Whitehouse after watergate.

He's gone now, I liked him.

President Ford needs to come off this list as he has passed away.

Well, since he's deader than last weeks newspaper, its a moot point, but I didn't mourn him much. Ineptitude in career politicians doesn't hold much interest for me, or win my affection.

A good man and a Wolverine......GO BLUE!!! UPDATE: No argument there, he was about the luckiest politician in history. But I think, the previous years with the Vietnam War and Watergate, and Spiro's Spiral is what prepared Americans for the Carter alternative, not Fords' obvious incompetence. Hell, you coulda put ANYONE from that rot-gut administration on the ticket, and it would not have mattered. Americans had just become too jaded over that period in our history, alot of ideals, and hopes that never came to fruition. Carter represented hope for many.....Which, again, never came to fruition. Besides this is about how much you would mourn a living President, I like Jerry-so I give him a 5!

He had a fairly unspectacular career as a Congressman who managed to avoid detection by most Americans, but had been a loyal republican, before it became so clearly defined on some of its more controversial issues (gun control, abortion, fiscal/spending restraint). When Spiro Agnew, Nixon's Vice-President, was forced to resign (prior to Nixon's resignation) due to a kickback scandal having to do with his governorship of Maryland (take note, Clinton apologists) Gerry Ford was appointed to take his place. When Nixon resigned in anticipation of impeachment proceedings, Gerry ascended to the presidency, without benefit of having been elected by the American people. He promptly pardoned Nixon, resulting in the eternal hatred of nearly all democrats. As stagflation grew in the US economy, to his terminal bewilderment, and the massacre of the fall of Saigon occurred under his watch, as spared as we were of most of the details, he was easy pickin's for the conservative democrat governor from Georgia, Jimmy Carter. He was forever hitting his head on things, or falling down stairs, or hitting innocent spectators with golf balls, he prepared America for a truly incompetent and clown of a president. That aside, I will mourn him as a former head of state whom I wish had never ascended to such a high position with so little capability.

I dunno, Jerry didn't really do much, I would feel sorry for him, but I wouldn't miss him as a president.
