I love this movie. A great classic 80's movie.

Probably an attempt to capitalize on the "Brat-Pack" films. Interesting plot, lots of special effects, but overall a bit of a snoozer. Could be exciting for a child or teenager.

Has twenty years gone by since this rather pedestrian teen age vampire flick hit the market? My, how time flies.
oscargamblesfr o 03/16/2008
I'd recommend another vampire movie from the same time, "Fright Night"over this one. It's passable but dated. Highlights of this film: Basically, a pack of trendoid vampires with Doors posters in their beach cave scare the Two Coreys. Feldman dresses up like Rambo and grunts in a would be tough guy manner. The non- Keanu Reeves from those stupid Bill and Ted movies is in this and so is Kiefer Sutherland back when he had one of those Synchronicity era Sting electric rooster platinum blond mullets...Diane Wiest who I believe plays Corey Haim's mom is unknowingly banging the vampires' leader who is not an Eastern European noble nor one of those Anne Rice trendier than thou types, but a boring, square, WASP businessman or insurance agent who incidentally is annoying and doesn't act very well in this flick. At the end of the day, a 476 year old hippie grandfather saves the day with some sort of tank with a spike on it. It isn't as bad as I've made it out to be, but not particularly good either...

I only saw it once when it first came out, and remember being ambivalent about it at the time. Thinking about it now from the vantage point of middle age, my ambivalence becomes dislike. It has its moments. The Santa Cruz, CA, locale is different, and Kiefer Sutherland and his vampire horde are visually striking, and initially unnerving. Corey Haim, before the drugs took hold, was actually a pretty good actor, but mixing comedy so blatantly with horror very rarely works, and Haim's interactions here with Corey Feldman (also before the drugs took hold) are embarrassing to watch. Basically a mess of a movie with some intriguing elements and an occasionally-effective atmosphere. Most of the blame for what doesn't work (the majority of the movie) should probably be ascribed less to the actors...who actually seem to try...than to director Joel Schumacher, who was very much a product of Reagan-era 1980's Hollywood.

I don't see the big deal about this movie. It's good, but not as great as it's cracked up to be.

Fun lighthearted look at vampires. I always liked the title's nod to the other lost boys in Peter Pan.

echoscot 10/16/2005
Great adventure flick. I didn't find it scary, as much as exciting. A thrill ride of a film.
Djahuti 08/26/2005
May appeal to teenagers but pretty cheesy for more mature folks.
musicprof 08/23/2005
Whoa!! Death by stereo! OK, so it wasn't scary. No the actors weren't all great. But it was the eighties and Rock was the flavor and vampires needed resurected and this was too much fun not to give it 5 stars. One of them goes to Star, Jami Gertz. Love her. Love the movie.
dragonx187 08/08/2005
One of my favorite vampire movies, if only because I was a kid when it came out and was so much in love with corey feldman and even though he was a background player in this movie, I watched every movie he was in. First time I ever watched Keifer Sutherland, and he was excellant in this movie. I compare his every movie to this one. The story was awesome, the vampires rocked, the music was truly supurb! If you like vampire movies and have not seen this one, you need to definitely rent it, but I would suggust going ahead and buying it on DVD because if your like me, It's a must have movie.
CanadaSucks 07/13/2005
It hasn't aged well at all. It screams give me 80's or give me death!
kattwoman 06/17/2005
it was pretty boring up until the end then it got a little more entertaining but nothing that blows you away.

Lost boys was a great movie well for a old one.
DickWeener 01/21/2004
I don't consider this a full blown horror flick, but it is somewhat...Not scary at all, but it is a classic from the 80s and very entertaining.
Sheba 07/25/2003
This movie was VERY good for it's time and has a good soundtrack, the problem is that it may not be able to stand the test of time. Many of the stars were the flavor of the month, and were never regarded as serious actors (e.g. the two "Coreys".), and other characters have either floundered in their careers or disappeared entirely. Problem is that the vampire-teen angst genre just won't hold up over the long term, (i.e. when teens are going Goth anymore). It was hip, cool, and funny, but it was also very 80's. I enjoyed it then, and I enjoy it now, but don't know if I will later.
lukskywlkr. 06/22/2003
I enjoyed this the first time I saw it, but it's not one I'd watch again. It's not scary and the focus is more on the teenybopper crowd than on any real scares. The BEST thing about the movie is the Grandpa, Wilfred Brimley, who knows a little more about what's going on in town than anybody realizes.
sr_in_nc 02/06/2003
You know, I loved this movie when it was first released. I even bought the soundtrack (sad, but true). I didn't even get the peter-pan reference of the title then. Even though I've read and watched lots of vamp fiction in the last 20 years, this one stands out - it was the first time I saw vamps trying to get along in a modern world. Not too successfully, but trying.
Teaseress 12/20/2002
I aqbsolutely adore 'Lost Boys' - its one of the ultimate 80's flicks and has a great cast such as Keifer Sutherland, Dianne West, Corey Haim and Feldman and Alex Winter. The music was absolutely fantastic - me and my sisters could sing every song word for word (sad I know) Not one to take seriously, but a definate for a horror film night!
v the final battle 11/22/2002
saw this when it first came out on video in the 80's. loved the still love it today. also had a very underrated soundtrack. anyone who saw this film and didn't think kiefer stole the show dosn't get it. he was just sooo cool in this film almost to the piont of being a anti-hero. but this was the 80's and the whole anti hero thing wasn't in yet. if this film was made today cory haim's character would not be the focus. times have certainly changed.

One word KIEFER
The Shape 06/29/2001
Is someone pulling the Shapes leg? Why on earth is THE LOST BOYS even on this stinking list? Anyway,on with the review. In his campy vamp time capsule of Eighties chic, Schumacher uses a cast jam-packed with TEEN BEAT bigshots along with gory comic book goofiness to tell his story of rock & roll nightstalkers in the fictional "murder capital of the world" Santa Carla (real-life Santa Cruz). For these wayward cool kids of the night, it's all mesh tops and mousse, long hair and leather jackets (plus one dangling earring). But equally as interesting is looking at these actors in terms of their career tracks: Watch then-unknown Jason Patric debut his chiseled jaw and ram heads with then-cool Kiefer Sutherland years before they were rivals for Julia Roberts' love; watch Jami Gertz in her brief stint as a screen siren; watch the two Coreys at the 14-minute mark; and who knew Dianne Wiest was in this thing? Unlike more complicated takes in the vampire canon, Lost Boys maintains a fairly blue-collar attitude toward the mythology: It's just holy water, blood sucking, and stakes through the heart here. But like the memorable INXS soundtrack song of the same name, Schumacher is more interested in giving us a "good time tonight," as he intersperses shots of the glitzy, towering rollercoasters, with the shrill cries of those riding it out. This slice of cinema is more a Sutherland, Patric curio than a classic horror movie.Oh and he'd be remiss if the Shape didn't mention that he noticed that this movie garnered a 3.78 from a total of 8 others.Really? That's just swell, as a public service announcement the Shape would like to suggest that those of you who deemed this movie worthy of said rating take a long hard look at just why it is that you consider yourself a Horror fan for he feels that maybe your a bit confused.
Thorne 06/28/2001
This is one wacky damn movie. With a blistering 80's peice of cheese soundtrack "SAY HELLO TO THE NIGHT!", undeniably homosexual undertones flowing from Corey Haimes's fire in the hole character and the only cool looking mullet I have ever seen sported by the always, well, used to be always fashionable Keifer Sutherland. This is a very cute and original take on the same old vampire tale. I am sure that back in the decade it was released the effects were great, the story was a little chilling, and the clothes were"tubular" but watching it know, it provides one with enough laughs you could possible burn off about thirty pounds. This was one of Joel Schumacher's first movies and one of his best. ( seriously, 8mm? The last two batman entries?) This is a time capsule of 80's nastalgia. Obviously made for its time and place. Even though, this movie proves to be a surprisingly entertaining ride. Not really scary at all now that I think about it. Charged with alot of energy though. Enough to keep this goofy bastard going up to the too sudden and lame as a Corman flick ending. The last line from the Grandpa is probably my favorite line in the whole movie. This movie is highly recommended if you are looking for a goofy movie to watch and laugh with your friends one dark and rainy night. "You'r eating maggots, Michael."
CastleBee 06/08/2001
"The Lost Boys" is a very tongue-in-cheek look at both the vampire and teen angst genres. It's not quite a parody but still employs lots of semi-dark humor and some wickedly funny lines. The film has a very 80's feel but without getting stuck there and is really unique and fascinating enough to draw you in more than once and probably several times. Worth checking out if you enjoy an occasional laugh in the face of either of the two topics listed above.
