An SI poll about two years ago put the Steelers #2 behind the Montana-led 49ers. I would reverse that. For my money, this is the best team in NFL history.

I'm partial to the 1980's San Francisco 49ers, but the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970's were a team like only a few could ever dream of. The Steel Curtain of Mean Joe Greene, Jack Lambert and company were like a pack of wolves ready to pounce on any offense that dared try to cross their side of no-man's land. And their offense wasn't bad either with Terry Bradshaw under center, with Franco Harris in the backfield and Lynn Swann and John Stallworth at the flanks. In any case, the Pittsburgh Steelers are aptly remembered amongst the greatest teams of all-time, and the 1979 team has been cited by some publications as the greatest team ever! Arguably, they were!

Great dynasty. Won four Super Bowls with a great defense and great offense. Still would have lost to Da 85 Bears and 72 Dolphins.

I hated these guys, but they were so dominant they were frightening. Lambert, Green, Stallworth, Harris and company gave a lot of good teams a lot of bad days.
