Everything fell into place at the right time for the Cowboys of the early 90s. There was some skill involved in building this machine, but there was a lot of pure luck as well. While I do think this is one of the greatest teams, I also think Jimmy Johnson was given genius status a little quicker than he should have been. Michael Irvin was already there, Troy Aikman was handed to him on a silver platter (and he almost turned it down), and he had to settle for Emmitt Smith when the player he wanted was taken in the 1990 draft. Still, it was Johnson that swung the Hershel Walker deal with Minnesota, and it was Johnson that put together the lesser known supporting players that all melded into a great team.
