Only team to go undefeated; that has to count for something. Also, they did it with backup (granted very good backup)quarterback Earl Morall for most of the year because Griese went down with an injury early in the year and didn't return until the Super Bowl. They had a very underrated defense, a triple threat ground attack, and one of the greatest receivers ever, Paul Warfield. All around, they were better than the 85 Bears. However, they would probably have lost in a close game to the 85 Bears because of that unparalleled 46 defense that made quarterbacks around the league just want to puke.

The '72 team went undefeated, but it wasn't just that one season. The '72-'73 Dolphins were 26-2 in the regular season, 32-2 if you count the playoffs and Superbowls. That also made three consecutive Superbowl appearances for the Dolphins, the first team to do that. They remind me somewhat of the Patriots of today in some ways. The usual measuring stick couldn't be used with them when it came to injuries or holes to fill. They might have a peg out of place, but they had the talent and the coaching to replace that peg one way or the other. Great ground game, the likes of which is not seen these days, good QBs, and a hard nosed, blue collar defense. What's not great about this team?

I'd put the 72 edition just a touch behind the 85 Bears, but the Dolphins were better longer. For three years, and part of a fourth, they were a fearsome bunch of warriors.
