This would be one of the greatest welterweight fights ever and one I would love to have seen. I think Robinson would have won this fight by a close decision. Not even Thomas Hearns could knock out a prime sugar ray leonard so I don't think robinson could. Altough he might be able to pull out another perfect punch like the one that caught Gene Fullmur

A great fight, but the real Sugar Ray (Robinson that is) takes this one, probably on a late TKO. And if they have judges from his era, (which means good ones) Leonard is toast.

In my eyes, Robinson would beat Leonard handily. The record shows, however, that beating SRL wasn't enough. If it came down to a decision, the wrong Sugar Ray would likely win.

This fight would not have been as competitive as some would believe. Robinson would have given Junior Sugar Ray a savage beating. Think about Ali and Zora Folley. This one would have been another fight over a name and Robinson's superior speed, power, technical ability, chin, timing, durability, stamina, far superior experience over superior competition would have spelled N-a-p in the 8th round for Leonard. Robinson is superior in every department over Leonard... except politically... perhaps Leonard would have waited until 1965 and conned 45 year old Ray Robinson back down to welterweight. Sound familiar? Leonard didn't fight Hearns for 8 years and waited long enough for Hagler to slow down before making the challenge.

I would take Robinson just because I think he has a bit more power than Leonard, but it definitely would be a great fight, especially if it was scheduled for 15.

In the battle of the Sugars, Robinson was just a little sweeter. I don't know if he would have knocked out Leonard or not, but he would have won.

As great as the second Sugar Man was, Sugar Ray Robinson was quite possibly the greatest fighter ever- especially at welterweight. I see this matchup as a tactical fight, however. And as smart as Sugar Ray Leonard was in the ring, Robinson would have kept Leonard on the defensive. With power to boot, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Robinson would have won by late stoppage.
