Haglers tendancy to cut is the key factor here. Robinson by late round stoppage due to cuts.

I feel that Sugar Ray Robinson would win by a close split or unanimous decision. Look back on the controversial Leonard/Hagler fight. Some of you may feel that Hagler won the fight. I think leonard took it but even if Hagler was the victor Leonard made it a close fight. Leonard had power but Robinson had dinamite in his gloves and was capable of knocking out the iron chinned Gene Fullmur with a single punch. On top of that he literaly killed a man with a single left hook at welterweight. Picture Sugar Rat Leonard with Thomas Hearns power. Thats how difcult it would be for Hagler to fight Robinson

I'll defer to smarter boxing fans here- but even Hagler (as amazing as he was in his prime) doesn't seem to be able to beat the incredible Robinson. . .but what a dream bout. .

As some have said, I think Hagler's only chance would have been to catch Sugar early. Robinson had enough power to KO Hagler, but I would have forseen a long drawn out decision going to Sugar in an easy unanimous decision..

This would have been a tremendous, brutal and lightning battle. I love Hagler, but I think his only chance to win here would have been in the early rounds with his utterly savage attack style. If this goes past five, Sugar Ray's got him.

Time for everyone to get schooled. Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest damn fighter pound for pound who ever walked the planet. As a middleweight, though, he was mortal. As a welterweight he was unbeatable. Again, as a middleweight he was MORTAL --he was defeated in the 50s by Turpin, Basilio, and Fullmer. Hagler would have steam-rollered all three of them in three weeks. Robinson circa 1955 versus Hagler 1982. I give the edge to Hagler even though I feel like I am committing the sin of blasphemy! I rank Hagler #1 as a middleweight... over Carlos Monzon, Stanley Ketchel, Hopkins, and yes the Truly Greatest of all time --Robinson.

A fight between what is arguably the two greatest middleweights ever, Sugar Ray Robinson and Marvin Hagler, would have been one of the most intriguing in the annals of boxing history. Hagler was a complete fighter who was known as much for his skill as he was for his savage tenacity. Robinson was also a complete fighter, but was probably known most for his brilliant ring generalship. But looking at their accomplishments and styles, I would still say Robinson would have won (albeit a close decision) nine out of ten times as he would have taken advantage of Hagler's forward aggression and relative lack of speed. But given an off-night performance by Robinson, the 'Marvelous One' might have pulled off an ugly-but-close split decision in a fight similar to how British fighter Randy Turpin had beaten the great Sugar Ray Robinson. But in any case, I can't forsee any knockouts, whatsoever.

As much as I like Hagler, and I really do. I have to believe that Sugar Ray Robinson would have been too much for him. There's no doubt in my mind that Hagler would have made Robinson work for his win. But Sugar had just too large of an arsenal for Hagler. Way too much movement and way too much speed for Hagler plus he could bang. I think he would have won by a late round knockout.

I would love to see it.I just tend to think that Robinson-at his best-had a little too much of everything. And he could take it,too.
