They've got nukes, a huge army and a huge economy. They've also stated that they will not hesitate to use thier nukes immediately if they are attacked. Any sanctions put on them would be devastating to most Western companies that use China for thier manufacturing. The massive manufacturing industry also means that they can build weapons at a rapid rate. Millions of Chinese also live abroad, so the potential for spies is huge. Although countries like the US dislike thier political ideals, they do not want to get in a war with them, as it would most certainly turn into WWIII.

Well lets just say they aren't teddy bears. Communism and human rights aside they helped Northern Korea set up a dictatorship more or less and will not step in when NK threatens with nukes. Common China time to do something other than protect youself only.

I completely agree with tboneya and stolypin, so therefore not much more of a response is required.

Could become a serious threat, especially as Chinese industry is fast becoming the France of Asia (exporting large amounts of weapons to illegit governments). They're becoming an industrial giant -thanks to their billion-strong slave labor population- and the people are not interested in political reform - thanks to Tiannaman(sp?) Square. The question is what path do they want to take. I believe, like tboneya, that the 21st century could very well be a Chinese century.
