Sugar Ray Leonard vs Pernell Whitaker at Welterweight 5

Great fight but outcome would all be about how it was scored

This would be quite possibly one of the most entertaining fights that could ever happen. Could you imagine the speed, quick punching, quick combinations, AND it would probably go at least ten rounds, if not the distance (assumeably 12 or 15).

I can't see Whitaker holding off the bigger and stronger Leonard. Whitaker had no punch, and without a punch, Leonard would have manhandled Whitaker at will, despite his defensive skills. Leonard was too fast, and had enough of a reach advantage to neutralize anything Whitaker had up his sleeve. And what type of offensive attack would Whitaker have used with Leonard. Maybe Willie Pep won a round without throwing a punch, against some long forgotten fighter. It would be too much of a stretch to expect Whitaker to get away with it against a fighter of Leonards caliber.

Wow! This fight would have been awesome. But something tells me that it would have most resembled the fight between Pernell Whitaker and Oscar De La Hoya. But what makes a dream fight between Pernell Whitaker and Sugar Ray Leonard so intriguing is that it would have matched arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all-time against one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters ever. In reality, Whitaker would have frustrated Sugar Ray during a fight. However, Sugar Ray had an arsenal of weapons at his disposal, which essentially would have frustrated Whitaker. Both were intelligent fighters with an uncanny ability to beat their opponents, physically and especially psychologically. Though no knockouts, I would have given Leonard the closest decision possible because of his more potent intangibles.

Well,I would watch it-and so would other serious boxing fans.Beyond that,I don't think Whitaker would be enough of a factor on offense;on defense, he'd probably make Leonard miss a lot.But I gotta think Leonard would pressure him enough to sway the judges.
