 | jagerbomber (0) 05/18/2008 | Love my Newcastles. Since I have started drinking them I will probably never drink any American domestic beers anymore. These are my hands down favorite, drinking some now!! Never was a big beer drinker, I tend to drink jager more often than beer. But I do enjoy throwin back a few newkies.

 | Spike65 (16) 04/30/2008 | Would have rated much higher but my large bottle had gone skunky due to clear glass bottle and sold from a lighted display case. Had a new one from a 12 ounce can and it was quite pleasant. I could drink a number of these in one sitting. Recommend the canned version due to skunk issues from clear glass bottles.

 | Larz1 (1) 03/03/2008 | I've tried it several times, but now I only drink it if the bar is out of REAL dark beer. It has a bit of a dusty flavor with a rusty aftertaste. I've had good British beer, and this doesn't measure up.

 | jewelsmcblah (2) 11/14/2007 | Very good beer. It's not anything special but it's still very very good. It even makes a good party beer. Good flavor, nice color. This might not be my favorite but there are far worse beers out there.

 | sperryc (31) 11/14/2007 | I'm not excited about this beer the way some people are. I think it has a nice taste, I just don't see myself becoming brand-loyal to this one... I think it's the sweetness...

 | helmut (16) 10/23/2006 | Ooh, I am really starting to like this beer. Had it on draught. Pours golden brown with a white head. Very nutty. Good with bar food. Nothing better than having a burger and a couple of 22oz Newkie Browns.

 | Bill Wayne (0) 10/23/2005 | At one time, Newcastle Brown Ale was food AND drink for me. I loved it. About 6 months ago I noticed changes. First the new "red" colored 12 pack box as sold in the USA. Next, the striking similiarities with Bass Ale packaging. The killing blow took place the night I noticed the famous scotch 'aftertaste' was no longer a part of what once was, for hundreds of years, one of the best brown ales on the planet Earth.
God Bless America and how our culture, values, rigid mind set, and literalism has corrupted the entire globe.
Someone 'over there' has taken the good ol American way and ruined a great ale. SHAME ! Shame on all those that took part in this disgusting rape of the original brewer's loving appreciation for a great brown ale brewed from the grains and herbs of the earth in exchange for the greed of the god almighty mammon.
I am NOT kidding. 23-October-2005

 | PowerBen5000 (0) 08/26/2005 | A pretty decent brew, not very expensive for an import either. I was underwhelmed by the flavor though, for a beer that is esteemed so highly its flavor is less than complex, but still manages to satisfy. I prefer beers that challenge my tastes a little more.

 | pad20b (0) 07/09/2005 | am from the north east of England and all i can say is that it is not the best selling beer in the UK for nothing! Rich, dark and utterly outstanding, better than guiness anyday!

 | OldSeaRock (0) 04/18/2005 | Every taste is different. Newcastle is flat and sour, much better options are available. I'd rather have a bloody Watney's Red Barrel!

 | sfalconer (22) 02/20/2005 | Perhaps one of the best beers in the world. It has a great taste and if you are not used to it, it has a pretty good punch. Worth at least a pint or three.

 | tocwelsh (2) 12/24/2004 | One of the great beers, tastes better from the bottle than the tap (Personel opinion!).
They call it THE DOG in Great Britain(uk), been drinking this ale for the past 40 years, actually have a bottle in my hand right now, grand stuff!!!!

 | zuchinibut (45) 12/14/2004 | The more I drink Newcastle, the more I love it. I would definitely say it is my favorite beer, and I'm happy to see it more and more at restaurants, bars, and liquor stores here in the US.

 | anopinionthatmatters (0) 05/12/2004 | Deliciously complex. Hints of chocolate and caramel with a nutty after-taste. The local Outback steakhouse serves it in a 22 oz. bottle with a frosty mug - combine that with a prime rib and it's a little slice of heaven!

 | Greebomusic (0) 03/25/2004 | Best damn everyday beer hands down. Go ahead and convince yourself you only like overpriced microbrews that are as black as tar. You're just leaving more for me!

 | froggy10 (0) 03/18/2004 | This is a beer you almost want to drink on its own. Complex and sweet. Rich mouthfeel. Dark and syrupy in texture. Almost chocolate like. Definitely unique in its own right. Best on a good tap. Makes sense this beer is coming from Northern England near Scotland. Does go well with some fish and chips. I will say I do have to be in the mood for this one though because there's so much in the glass.

 | DickWeener (0) 02/09/2004 | Damn good beer, but not up with the big boys and isn't 5 star worthy....This is a good everyday drinking beer, med dark in color good taste... You can find this stuff on sale for $13-14 for a 12 pack of bottles not bad at all for a quality beer.

 | VirileVagabond (38) 01/28/2004 | Newcastle Brown Ale is a solid darker beer for those who like a less bitter, more sweet, nutty aftertaste. It doesn't beat a Guiness, but many drinkers cannot handle or do not prefer a stout. The biggest problem with Newcastle is that the beer does not taste good when switching between different kinds of beers in one sitting. In other words, either stick with the Brown Ale for the evening or stay away completely.

 | Ligeia (0) 03/04/2003 | A good "stand-by" brown ale. I would prefer to drink Samuel Smith's Nut Brown or Goose Island Hex Nut Brown (although Rateitall.com currently doesn't even have *listings* for either one of those!), but when I'm at a restaurant that doesn't offer either one, I'll usually drink Newcastle. Brown ale is my preferred type of beer, but Newcastle, while not bad, doesn't offer a spectacularly memorable flavour, either. It's average.

 | crowbar (0) 12/11/2002 | Like I said, rivals Bass for best beer out there. Guiness is on a different plane, of course. If you like New Castle, try John Courage for a good Nut Brown Ale that is underrated/understocked

 | viperguy96 (0) 11/06/2002 | I'm not a big fan of dark beers. This beer is one of the reasons. Tastes like a Hershey bar that the dog threw up. Highly overrated.

 | Cynical Sam (0) 02/20/2002 | I never understood what all the hoopla was about. I don't like the taste. One of the most overrated beers in the world.

 | Potch1214 (0) 10/11/2001 | Introduced to me by a friend and his father. They were from, where else, Newcastle! (They are both, also I might add, slightly Alcoholic...) This is easily the best ale I have ever had, bar none! I grew up drinking piss water beers like Bud and Coors, now I won't touch them. Broonale has made me a beer snob. The taste is a bit sweet for ale, but that's what makes it so great. I actually will not drink beer at all at a party if I can't find Broonale to bring or something at least comparable (Yuengling or Sam Adams). The best ale in the world.

 | Lily P (0) 09/09/2001 | This is my favorite beer. I used to drink it a lot when I was out in the midwest. Now that I am on the East coast it is harder to find. I enjoy the dark smooth taste of it. I usually drink this with a meal, especially chicken wings.

 | Timmy!! (1) 12/28/2000 | Good stuff. Nothing like a Broonale. It is a bit sweet as ales go, but that can make a nice change if you've had enough of the more hoppy beers.

 | magellan (179) 10/06/2000 | Great Brown Beer. Made better by the rumor that the Brits who work at the Newcastle Brewery, and have been drinking the stuff for years, are all going gradually insane. This is the most drinkable dark beer that I have ever tasted -nothing beats hanging out and putting back a couple of those giant 20oz(?) newkie browns.
