09/26/2007 | Take your pick, scripted, crowd-pleasing, populist, Hollywood humour or the caustic, personality-driven everyman schtick from New York. Personally I find Jay Leno to be a plastic phoney and Dave Letterman to be a fascinating, flawed, real person. Jay Leno wants to put his guests in the best possible light. Dave Letterman wants to let his audience find out what his guests are really like. I don't care about what the Hollywood Dream Machine is selling, I want the curtain pulled back.
