 | TheDew (0) 03/31/2007 | With Speakeasy we experienced disconnects every month which were killing our business. I spent hours on the phone with them and all together had 20 trouble tickets in the period of a year. Finally I had enough and cancelled my service siting poor performance (obviously). They later charged my credit card on file for $1000.00 cancellation fee. I had never paid them by CC, but I had one on file from when I signed up. The charge was completely unauthorized. If you have had a similar experience file a complaint with the BBB at www.bbb.org. It may at least help the next guy.

 | greggman (0) 03/15/2007 | Bad Bad Bad,
It started off okay. The first call where they took my order. Then they said it would be 3 weeks before they could install. 2 days later they called back and said they got someone to come out in a few days but I needed to take the day off. I get paid by the hour so taking the day off really hurts but I wanted internet so I stayed home. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP!
They reschedule for the next Wednesday. I tell them I will not be in town on Wednesday. They still show up and call me in the middle of a 3000 person lecture. I tell them like I told them before I am out of town. I also tell them as they all ready cost me several hundred dollars for missing the first appointment that they have to give me a morning time frame. They say okay.
A few days later I get a notice they are coming out on Tuesday. I wait until 12pm. They never show.I go to work. They call at 4pm saying they've arrived at my place. I'm like WTF. I EFFING TOLD YOU YOU HAD TO COME IN THE MORNING AND YOU AGREED.
Finally I just hand to cancel. I went with another provider who have me a real time and installed just 4 days after I ordered. Speakeasy SUCKS!!!

 | johnlabarge (0) 03/14/2006 | Be careful. The service in my area was terrible. I had voip and dsl through SpeakEasy, until I finally couldn't take it anymore. It took longer than they promised to set up. And they charged me more than I was quoted. Now they want a cancellation fee from me.
DSL install worked fine at first. Then many times I experienced DNS issues. These were so intermittant however that it was hard to report them.
I had several outages in just a few months, and each time I had to spend hours on hold. Then my DSL modem died. When I received the new one. I hooked it up, and was told there was another outage. Having been without telephone service in my house for a couple weeks, that was it for me. I told them to cancel it.
Now they want to charge me a cancellation fee, but I intend to continue to dispute it with them in court if need be. This is not standard practice in the industry, and given the amount of outages I experienced, they were clearly unable to provide the service that I contracted for. They shouldn't be able to now be rewarded with a windfall for lousy service.

 | actionrobert69 (0) 09/22/2005 | I am writing this review so that people who research their business before signing up might have a chance to save themselves a ton of trouble from a shady company with deceptive practices.
First I will discuss the installation issues. It took them five (5)!!! weeks to get to my house to do the install. In all fairness ( I insist on giving an accurate representation of my dealings) the installer was friendly and thorough. The problem with the length of time it took them was complicated by SBC. Apparantly the two companies have a lack of communication. I needed an additional line strung into my house. It took two weeks for SBC to come to my house. The tech said there was a problem with the line and unfortunately he didn't know what the problem was. He then informed me that I needed to contact Speakeasy for further assistance, which I promptly did. Eventually SBC came out and dug a gigantic hole in my backyard measuring ten feet by ten feet and ten feet deep. They installed a new box where the hole was dug and then left. The hole stayed in my backyard, unfilled, and a danger to my children and dog for another two weeks They left their tools, a bunch of garbage, a big yellow umbrella and an ugly orange plastic fence around the hole for two weeks until I called them and yelled at them to come fix it. Another week passed by and eventually SBC came out to fill in the hole, but left the cable running to my house exposed above the ground. I cannot mow my lawn, edge or weed eat without fear of cutting the line. I have called them about this, but the cable remains, coming out of the ground and running to my house. The Speakeasy tech came out and hooked up the DSL. He was friendly, informative and thorough. No complaints about that part of the service.
The service itself is spotty. Sometimes the DSL works. Sometimes it does not. I have to constantly resart my computer and modem in order to keep it working. The speed is around 800kb not the 1.5 meg I was promised. I have called Speakeasy but no help was offered.
Now for the kicker. This is the part which made me the angriest. Please read this and do business elsewhere!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!! I was on my way to the pharmacy to get some antibiotics for my wife, when I was notified that my bank card was declined. My account had over $200 in it!!! How could this be? I researched the problem and found that Speakeasy had put a $220 hold on our account. Apparantly if your bill is 10 days or more past due then they take the money out of your checking account! I was not aware of this! I did not authorize this!! I was never told anything about this!!! When I signed up for service, they took my card number and assured me it was only for shipping purposes, in order to ship me the modem!!! The Speakeasy rep told me that we had disabled "auto renew" but because we had a credit card on file they did it anyway!!! He then refused to reverse the hold on our account!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, let me tell you how business operates in America. I sign up for service. Said business comes out in a timely manner and installs service. The service must work as promised. Said business sends out invoice. I recieve invoice or bill. I pay bill at my discretion. If I do not pay bill on time, then said business may disconnect service and begin collection efforts. This is the way it works and it is fair. Always has been.
We were promised a thirty day invoice by Speakeasy. They promised we would have service on for 30 days before we even received a bill. They also promised us a $100 rebate. We received our bill before service was even installed, and then they stole the money out of our account without authorization!!
Come to find out that the rebate is NOT automatic! You have to sign up for it on the internet. We would have waited and waited and waited, because no one told us we had to instigate the rebate service! No one told us about the automatic taking of money if the bill was late!!
In conclusion, Speakeasy did not disclose any of their practices to us when we signed up. They were deceptive in trying to get our business. Now I am stuck with a bunch of bounced checks, huge charges for said checks and a sick wife and no way to get her antibiotics. They caused immense financial damage to my family!!
I filed fraud charges with my bank, and had to get another debit card. So I don't have use of my money with the card for another week now. I also filed a report with the better business bureau. I also plan to seek criminal charges for deceptive practices. What Speakeasy did to my family was wrong!! Plain old WRONG!!
Please post this on your website!! Do not edit it or change it!! Don't let this happen to other people!!! Please do your business somewhere else. Speakeasy is ROTTEN!!!
