Interesting idea. All those damn "Prisoner of Alcatraz" t-shirts they flog to tourists down on Fisherman's Wharf could be given out to help clothe them too.

Now that Alcatraz is a National Park, this is far from draconian. Actually, relocating willing homeless people to rural areas with start-up capital, where they could live by production rather than scavenging, is not a bad idea-though I don't expect it to ever happen.

are we going to round them up and fly them all to san francisco so we could put them in a rundown prison that isnt fit for any human? because whether you have any compassion at all they are still human beings

Nah, I always thought Alcatraz is a place for dangerous murderers and violent criminals. Not all homeless people are criminals.

Alcatraz isn't being used for anything except a tourist site. The jail is huge - you could take a large chunk of the real crazies and throw them in there. I think it would help create a more exciting tourist attraction. I bet Hollywood would have a new reality show on their hands.
