It's catchy and has been a great historical name.

The Buckeye's that Andrew is refering to, the peanut butter rolled up into balls and dipped into chocolate, then chilled, are one of my favorite snacks that for some taunting reason both my wife and my mother, will only make at Christmas time. I have never really heard of the real buckeye or seen one.

A friend of mine from a neighboring state likes to jokingly say A Buckeye is nothing but a worthless nut. I rarely see Buckeye trees where I live in Ohio, but am plenty nostalgic over the chocolate and peanut butter dessert that is made to look like the unique Buckeye nut. www.outofthefryingpan.com/recipes/buckeyes.shtml

A buckeye is a little poisonous nut. Think about THAT next time Ohio State plays Michigan.

I'm not kidding- what is a Buckeye?

Well looky here Zeek a nut - let's name the State after it! These people no doubt later migrated to Indiana and selected the word Hoosier as a State nickname.
