Never saw it. Never will. And if they ever try to show it on network tv, I'm going to protest just like Christians do the movies I wanna see, on network tv.

Liberally spliced from the apocalyptic rantings of the least-reliable of the Gospel recollections, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST is the ultimate hybrid of Hollywood engineering and the public's desperate desire to be spiritually herded. Twenty minutes into it, I thought I'd mistakenly wandered into a slasher flick, as the horror-genre trappings kept piling up (the back-alley zombie that jumps Judas, the mutated children, chunks of lip flesh dangling with shiny gore, etc.). Then the director lovingly turned his twisted attentions to the title character. For a guy who was only supposed to have been spat upon and hit on the head with a reed (Matthew 27:30), Jesus must not have read Gibson's script revisals; if he had, he might've taken a pass on the ensuing carnage and fanciful bloodletting that made up the remainder of the film. I'm surprised Mel didn't toss him into a chipper-shredder as the end credits rolled. As with most Passion plays, you're supposed to feel the overwhelming guilt of being the cause of all this, but Mad Max ramps it up with imagined violence and licentious barbarisms to make sure the viewer isn't conflicted in any way. As long as you're not interested in things like pacing, plot, character depth, or historical accuracy, this one's a pick to click in the enshrinement cabinets of retailers everywhere. Just make sure to look for it under its subtitle: The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre.

I am not going to say I 'liked' the movie, because how can you like a movie like this. It doesn't seem that there is the right word to describe how I feel about this film. It ranks with those movies where liking the movie doesn't seem to be enough. Take Schindler's List for example, I don't think many came out of the theater saying 'I like that movie'. Its more shocking then it is likable. I go to church every Sunday, I hear the scriptures every Easter of how Jesus died, and this gives it a little more of a reality. The acting was good, surprised that Cavezial didn't get a nomination, neither did Gibson and neither did the movie, I guess the Oscars didn't want to get to religious. But hell, they nominate Speilberg's Jewish filled movies so why not this? I guess this is more obvious then Speilberg's settle Jewishness. Anyway, I feel that this movie is not over rated, and I...um...lik...no...I enjo...no...TWO THUMBS UP????

Purely as a film it deserves to be put up there with the greats. It is debateable on the accuracy.I feel it has a strong Catholic slant to it.

Well I guess it was a bit painful to see the poor guy(Jesus) get whipped 1000 times. But overall it was a pretty inspiring and touching film.

Because this movie appears in several lists I believe it speaks as a testimony of its popularity and controversy. I think the acting is superb and the production of the film was great. I do not believe the movie is over-rated at all so I'll give it one star. An excellent movie!
