Books are probably the most worth while thing you can collect. Books are an investment. For 5-10 dollars, you get a source of knowledge, entertainment, and possibly a means to broaden your horizons and make you think a little bit. Granted, there are some books that are not worth your time out there, but for the most part you can't go wrong. From Dr. Suess to Tolstoy, books are a way for us to connect.

Collecting a library of various books is one of my goals. Most books I have are biology books, some art books, a modest collection of science fiction/fantasy, a little collection of books on ancient mythology, and some other stuff. Being low on funds, I gotta stick with the library for now.

my partner and I are both avid readers, but our tastes are totally different. My partner did an English Lit degree, so he is more into his classics and is very picky about what he reads, whereas I am more into Sci fi, fantasy and modern classics. I can easily get through a 200 page book in about a couple of days and am always looking for something new to read, so I always buy new books, mainly from charity shops so I've always got a constant supply of fresh material to read.

I love to read so i love to buy books. ever since i was young. we have bookshelves of them. I have found I do not care if they are brand new and can get some great deals at the book burroughs at the library. and second hand stores rummage sales. Even though i still go to book stores. We have all kinds of books. Childrens from when my kids were small, new current books. classics. etc. we all have our different tastes in reading. Thank goodness my now teens like to read when they have time too. Books are a great investment for keepsakes and of course, reading. I do not buy them to make money just to have to read when i want.

Egads! I've accumulated enough to start a small (or maybe medium) library. Many have been rescued rather than bought.I have to be careful how much cash I'm carrying in a used book store!

a big problem for me. years ago i worked collecting book donations for the carnegie in Pittsburgh(you'd be astonished at what librarians turn away) and we had our pick of the liter in terms of donated/rejected books. at one time i had about 8 different copies of Leaves of Grass and 6 or 7 different copies of Grapes of Wrath. my two best finds: a 1st edition of Franny and Zooey and a 1st of Ginsberg's collected poems. still a problem however. whenever i get paid i find myself curiously looming outside of bookstores.

Yes and no. I don't habitually go out and buy books but when I do, I always keep them. When I was studying at TAFE, they make it so we have to purchase all of our text books eg computing, accounting books. Whilst a lot of students have sold their text books, I have kept mine and have a whole 20lbs stack of text books. But I am glad I've kept them because if I ever have a problem with my computer or want to refresh my memorie, I can just look up what I want to research. Plus it would be expensive to chuck away good books.

I used to collect books, but I sold most of my 40+ political books to the bookstore and made cash out of it. I only have 55 books left in my bookshelf. Most of it is sports. ... Besides, I've given up reading and collecting books. If I wanna check out a book, I'll just go to the NY Public Library.

Darn it, if I started counting the books I have, I'd have no time to READ 'em!

I am an addict. My wife keeps making me put them in the basement lest we have no room for furniture.

I have thousands of books and don't really have room in the house for all of them. I also have a pretty good cook book collection.
