05/04/2008 | Don Ramon's is an enormous (by SF standards) Mexican Restaurant in SOMA, about a block away from the club district. It's a huge place - if you have a big group, this is one of a handful of Mexican places that can accommodate you.
The food is decent, though preposterously overpriced ($15 for enchiladas). The margaritas are also decent.
When I see the lines at places like Puerto Alegre and Velvet Cantina, I can't help but to think that Don Ramon's is doing something wrong. If I were running the place, I'd slash prices on the food and make Don Ramon's a first stop on the SOMA bar / club strip. Why have a big empgy place with overpriced food, when you could pack them in with cheap food and make money on high margin margaritas?
