I bought my first 45rpm back in 1964, " Oh Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison, and I collected records until around 1990. I have a large collection of 45s,and Lps. Alot of the 45s still have the original picture sleeves. ALL are in Great condition. I still listen to them( although not as often as I used to), I recently bought a USB Turntable, and I'v transfered ALL the rare cuts from the LPs,and all the rare 45s unto my computer,Now I have all the rare one's on CD. Because you really can't find alot of music from back in the day even on CD.Hell, you can't even find some of the old lps on cd, Now EVERYTHING I have on record is on CD.

condition and how many are out there are a big issue and they can take up alot of space so it would take dedication too.

i have many cds because i listen to them so in a sense i guess i am collecting them. albums can be popular but they are not money makers unless you happen to come across a rare one in mint condition. rolling stones emotional rescue signed by mick jagger is $250 but an album by the monkees goes for about $5.

I'm not about to put a halt on THIS collection - as I can ALWAYS use a little music in my life.

Besides catering to my taste in older music, old vinyl records satisfy the eclectic side of me because there are some things that will never be reissued on a CD and a used record is the only way to obtain a copy. In my collection this ranges from old Edward R Murrow commentaries, years in review (news related), original copies of Lenny Bruce, Jack Paar, Jean Shepherd and other comics to some original monophonic copies of Beatle albums which often contain different versions of songs from their stereo counterparts.

Although I'm not the biggest collecter, I still like collecting MP3 files. But I do know that this is a common hobby and at least you can enjoy the albums for years to come.

This is where much of my spending money has gone ever since I was washing cars for 50 cents in the 70s.
