Old radios and record players were the first things that I collected beginning as a teenager. In 1973 a local stereo store closed its doors and I raided the dumpster, finding a wealth of old components. Most of the items were old Fisher and Heathkit AM and FM mono tuners, amplifiers and tape recorders. I have also had several older radios (including an Atwater Kent which I bought from a guy in a gas station for $25.00) which were actually pieces of furniture. About 10 years ago I fell onto hard times financially and I sold most of my collection to a man who has a shop where he repairs and restores old radios, juke boxes, etc. I kept my favorite radio, a 1935 (approx) American Bosch table model AM / shortwave radio and one, four foot high, wind up victrola that was purchased from a neighbor about 30 years ago. If you have never experienced an old tube amplifier sending sound through a speaker with an electro magnet, you'd be amazed at the quality of the sound. There is something about the glow of vacuum tubes shining through the back of a radio which makes me feel as if time has stood still. (FYI you CAN get old radio tubes) Now if only I could find one of those old tube testers that they used to have in candy stores.....

I love old radios, they remind me of days gone by. I remember a Sinclair Dino AM-Radio I had that I thought was the coolest thing. I would listen to it for hours. It was one of the simple things in life.

They may be useful if you can turn the old components into other useful things. Otherwise your backyard will look like a rubbish dump.

Nope, I don't collect those either. Why collect? Why not take them to a pawn shop and get money for it?
