She is as deserving as anyone else. The Ventures, the Moonglows, and the O'Jays got in, so there is no reason why Petula shouldn't. And, to those who think she's not "rock" enough, Brenda Lee made it in, The Shirelles made it in, Bonnie Raitt made it in, and the Ronettes made it in.

Just on the strength of her many 60's chart-topping mega-hits, Petula should be inducted. The fact that she sings and composes in every style and every language besides being an accomplished film and stage actress shouldn't be held against her. Neither should the fact that she is a pacifist and that she made history in 1968 by becoming the first white woman to touch a Black Man (Harry Belfonte) on American television.

This is a very interesting case. On the one hand Petula is clearly MORE than just a rock singer with a lengthy career that predates the invention of Rock & Roll and still continues to this day at the age of 75!!- so it's hard to call her a rocker. Yet on the other hand during the mid-late 60's when Petula was within the Rock & Roll orbit I really don't know of any other female solo singer that had 7 big songs as good as Downtown, I Know A Place, My Love, I Couldn't Live Without Your Love, Sign Of The Times, Don't Sleep In The Subway and This Is My Song. That material is surely just as good if not better than that Ronettes/Motown type stuff......so my conclusion is that even though Petula Clark has not spent the majority of her career in Rock & Roll, the stuff she did when she was in the Pop/Rock universe is good enough to put her in. (Just place her as far away from the Sex Pistols and Black Sabbath as possible.)

I'd like to read the definition of Rock and Roll by which Petula Clark would garner a nomination. I won't detract from her chart statistics or her skills as a vocal interpreter of contemporary pop songs, but she doesn't smell like teen spirit in the least.

To be truthful, Petula is on of the alltime great 1960's pop voices ever! No she is not rock n roll, but where does she go for recognition. She was a breed of female singers from the 60's like Dusty Springfield, Jackie Deshannon, and Leslie Gore who helped sing the sountrack of our lives. I say yes to induction.

My first favorite song was Downtown. I sang it all day at the age of 3. And I never stopped liking Petula Clark. A smooth soulful voice. But, she is not rock and roll.

She deserves to be in there just as much as some who are there now.

She's great, but not quite Hall material, much as I like her. DEEP PURPLE before Petula

The first British Invasion to have a #1 record in the USA. That #1 was of course Downtown. Between 1964 and 1969, Petula charted with 19 consecutive singles, 15 of which made it to the top 40! Among her top 10...I Know A Place, My Love, A Sign of the Times, I couldn't Live Without Your Love, and Don't Sleep in the Subway. She continued to chart(granted in the lower regions of the Hot 100) until 1982! She continues to perform in concert and is an amazingly hip and young sounding 72! Give Petula her props!!
