I'd say Willie Nelson belongs in there. He may be "country",but Rock n' Roll has it's parents in the Blues and Country.Willie is definately a REBEL,and his music and attitude have influenced many musicians, rockers included.

I guess it depends on what the requirements are for being in the rock & roll hall of fame. If it's strictly this person had to be rock, then I guess Willie is out. But if it's more about has this person been extremely influential in popular music in general, then Willie Nelson belongs, as a great songwriter and performer. There are Willie Nelson fans who claim to hate country music, so he's definitely bigger than the country genre. I mean, who can't sing along to On The Road Again?

COUNTRY MUSIC - YES , ROCK - NO!!!!
Engstfeld 12/16/2005
Awesome country star, especially his more melancholy stuff. Rock and roll? Fraid not.

Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be singer-songwriter, actor, dable in rock, sometime country, players. You can't be everything and get into this hall. It's not the Grand Old Opry.
ElvisC 12/04/2005
Not rock.
AmazingEEE 12/02/2005
Not rock. Just not rock. He followed in the footsteps of "country-rock" artists like Gram Parsons to some extent, but that's not enough for rock hall consideration.

Are there any standards here at all folks? This isn't the Country Hall we're talkin' 'bout now, y'all. Are you crazy? I love Willie, GREAT SONGWRITER! But, I don't have, not one of his rock-n-roll records. I think it is because, HE DIDN"T MAKE ANY! Maybe the nominating committee had been smoking some of Willie's stash so they figuered, ah, what the hell! Sure, he's got a rock attitude and maybe even got more --- than Kiss. But, truly is that sufficient criteria? And what about this? Leon Russell was the first person to sign Willie's famous guitar, and he ain't in neither, though he should be. Did Willie sign on Leon's piano? Question for the Rock Hall of Fame? How many of the current nominees or even the current members, have written, played on, arranged or produced more hits than Leon Russell?

A great country singer. Most of his music should not and is not considered rock and roll, however, so it seems odd to have him listed here.
Rockon64 09/30/2005
Is this a joke? Maybe induct him in the reefer smokers' hall of fame.

Country Hall - Yes. Rock - No.

Willie did some of the first crossover musci I heard it was called progressive country "Shotgun Willie" I think was the record which made me listen to a country musician without being forced to listen all my frinds loved it and we still love Willie and will always love him Die hard Texans

A country legend who transcends genres. He has influenced many non-country artist and is versatile enough to collaborate with musicians of other genres. He not only has jammed with rockers but also he's made quite a few polkas with Jimmy Sturr. Willie is a Legend!
journey2006 05/06/2005
He's a country Icon who co-founded Farm Aid. He's in the Hall of Fame in my book
