So he played with the Beach Boys for a very short time, why is he even considered. Shouldn't he be inducted into the Grand ole Opry.

Another country artist who managed to reach an audience outside of country music. Rhinestone Cowboy was a hit on the pop charts as well as the country charts. Once again, it comes down to whether being strictly rock is important, or whether widespread influence on various forms of popular music qualifies one for the rock hall of fame.

So Glen's not a rocker. Don't know what station you were listen to back then but I was tuned to top 40 rock and I sure heard Glen on there a lot. I say if the man's music competed air time with the rockers,,,he's a rocker!!! Glen Campbell brought Jimmy Webbs songs to life, along with a boatload of other, (lets say it together), COUNTRY ROCK, classics. And yes, he was a great studio musician to boot. He's got my vote.

His session work alone is deserving of the R and R Hall of Fame. Premier guitarist of the 60's, Played on You've Lost That Lovin Feeling, Pet Sounds, I'm A Believer, Jan/Dean sessions, Mammas and Pappas, you name it. Also deserves recognition as one of the early crossover artists to get airplay on Top 40 Stations. The more you learn and know about Campbell's accomplishments, the more impressive he becomes. And, he did write music. He co-wrote the hit song "Turn Around, Look At Me", and is credited with making the capo a standard sound on guitar playing in session work.

Great musician. But he didn't write music.

I love Glen Campbell's late 60's output of albums. But He's on the border. Wichita Lineman Galveston Gentel on My Mind By the Time I Get to Phoenix A quartet of classics, as good as has ever been recorded. Nothing in his cannon of songs comes close to approaching those 4 songs though. But he can beat you in a lot of ways.
