 | rosserconstruction (0) 01/10/2007 | Ive been looking through other distrobutions for some time now
ive tried mandriva, debian, mepis, knoppix, etc. So far the one that ive actually installed on my machine is Linux Mint you may be asking y if this is an ubuntu review well i started out with Ubuntu and im going to make my point now. Whether your a brand new linux user or a more experienced one ubuntu i a great distro. Its based off of debian and uses the gnome interface. Installing software is pretty simple just go through the list and pick some out in a few minutes it will have downloaded and installed the software.
Same kind of thing with the updates just like windows a little box will appear in you task bar you click it hit update and it goes. Basically if your not doing anything like using unique software or hardcore gaming its a good thing of course if youve used linux before you know that. The reason why i didnt give it 5 stars is it doesnt allow me
to play certain media types like real and encrypted dvds unless you look for the files online and install them in ubuntu so if you dont mind the lack of some media then its probably one of the best distrobutions you can get. If you want to be able to play all media files no matter what they are but still want ubuntu i would deffinately try Linux Mint.
Same interface same programs but it was customized to be more media freindly and has some other cool features.
To check out Ubuntu go to http://www.ubuntu.com or if you want Linux Mint go to http://lt.k1011.nutime.de/
