Well hell, where was I that year! I don't even remember Chris Rock hosting the oscars though I really like him otherwise!

Some of his jokes fell really flat. Didn't make the Oscars interesting enough.

It was good for the Academy to take a chance and mix things up, but I don't think he pulled off what they wanted, to make the Awards presentation hip. It's just too bad that the Academy Awards think that they have to be the biggest, hippest event on the planet. Does everything have to be about more - more award categories, more viewers, more ad revenue? Is there no place left in the world for a tasteful recognition of excellence?

I loved Rock! His humor was not so lopsided as some have stated, and if they ever expanded their narrow perspective on race, would realize Rock is one of the most even handed comedians when it comes to race. Get out of the white mentality and into the raced world of the U.S. today.

He really shouldn't be doing the racial jokes all the time, It tends to get a little predictable. although, the demeaning and mean jokes he makes about other actors were funny and I had a good laugh. Alot of actors take themselves to seriously. Sean Penn is a goof, he took it seriously and had a fit when he got on stage, he needs to chill out, I think everyone else got the joke and knew chris rock was only kidding around.

Terribly unfunny. His comedy was poor and also had alot of refrences to black people which I just didn't get! Plus I knew we had a bad host when he complimented Farehieght 9/11. The biggest question I had was did he write his comedy himself? If he did then he needs to be fired from the movie buissness right away!

I couldn't care less. I haven't watched an awards show of any description in 15 years or more. They're the closest thing to a free somnolent I can imagine.

I thought he was hysterical, I never laughed so much before while watching the Oscars. It was a nice change, since these award shows can get so boring after a while...

Who could have guessed that the usually funny Chris Rock could be so boring, so lame, and so mean spirited. A real letdown. Hope they don't ask him back.

Forget about the Academy Awards, Chris Rock would be my last choice to host a nose picking contest in the middle of a Kansas cornfield - although I think this would be more his speed. Regardless of the gratuitous bum kissing he receives from critics who are too politically correctly constipated to form a lucid opinion, Chris Rock is one of the most spectacularly unfunny comedians ever to clomp onto a stage. Aside from his mean spirited, exclusive and distancing approach to humor, he also has a very jerky, shrill delivery that sets my nerves on edge. And apparently his expressions are as limited as his material since he appears to be either in a state of incensed surprise or self satisfied smugness at all times. Other comedians have the ability to take on the same kind of material and deliver the same message without totally alienating a portion of the audience Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor to name two. It is obvious that Rock either does not have this ability or simply enjoys slamming people as they sit like robots laughing uncomfortably. Personally I think he gets off on the later not to mention, makes a great living doing so. Its ironic that just as the film industry and the Academy Awards are finally getting around to being inclusive of just about every race, creed and color scheme, good material is coming along and long overdue voices are being heard - they choose to take a giant step backward by inviting a comedian whose solitary purpose appears to be to drive people farther apart. How brilliant!

It did not regress into the MTV Movie Awards as some feared. I thought he did Okay. He had some funny stuff. But probably not much edgier than Bob Hope in the midst of his hey-day. I got a kick out of the feature where they went to the urban movie theater to get the pulse of the nation. It is obvious that the real America prefers movies like AVP (one of my Top-10s) and White Chicks, over pseudo-intellectual crapola like Sideways and Vera Drake. I was boasting that I did not see a single picture up for an award until I was dragged to Finding Neverland.

Where were the jokes? I love Chris Rock, but I don't think this was the best venue for his talents. I loved the Oprah Winfrey/John Kerry proposal joke, but can't remember much else from him. I'd rather see him in one of his hourlong specials, then him throwing out one liners after awards are presented.

Reviews of Chris Rock's performance have been all over the map from both the general public and leading newspaper critics. In the end, Chris Rock did not say anything quite as controversial as early hyped-up publicity suggested he would. The most controversial remark was calling respected actor Jude Law second-rate, a joke which surely would have been much better received had it been at Ashton Kutcher's expense. He also said rappers and even himself are given film roles for the wrong reasons, so I understood the larger point of most studios casting for profit reasons. Some critics have pointed out that the night's clipshow of Carson's best moments as Oscar host underscored that Rock has had more charming predecessors. But if the Academy wanted to reach younger demographics this year and keep their interest despite a lack of blockbuster films being nominated, then they reached their goal. A tamer-than-usual Chris Rock still delivered much of the sharp, observational standup comedy that is his trademark. Chris Rock had a few memorable zingers on politicians and race differences, but such comedy is hardly unprecedented for the Oscars. Rock's night hosting often felt rushed along (the remark about next year becoming a drive-through affair with winners also getting a McFlurry with their Oscar was dead on), but I give him credit for not giving the world a four hour patience-testing snoozer.
