a fine whisky. i fell in love with dickel on a camping trip to the ozarks for my brother in law's bachelor trip. just having some over ice is where its at. the flavors are more distinct and sharper than jack. hint of vanilla without being nearly as sticky sweet as JD. 8 year white label 90 proof all the way.

When I moved to TN I started drinking Jim Beam, moved to Jack Daniels, and then one day for some reason I tried George Dickel. Now I only drink Beam & Jack when there's no Dickel to be had. I'm back in Canada now and you can't get Dickel here so whenever I go south I grab a bottle of #12 Dickel. Smooth and good value!

Dickel so slow and smoothly... laughs at neighbor Jack and rises above- aroma of something fine... sip slowly with a splash of water- NO COKE! if you gotta mix something with sugar water to mask the taste- it ain't worth drinkin' in the first place- might as well buy Jim Beam swill... Dickel #12 make your dickel tingle... smooooooooooooooooooooth

It looks like I'm going to be the one slightly negative opinion on Dickel. Let me start with the analogy first. When drinking soda pop, there's a drink called Cream Soda, like Orange Cream Soda. When you compare the taste of orange cream soda to a regular orange soda pop, you notice a distince difference between the feel of the two in your mouth. The regular orange soda pop has a very bright taste, where the cream soda has subdued taste. This is what I found when I tried Dickel. For me, JD has a very bright taste. But when I tried the Dickel, it felt like there was a film on my tongue that kept me from tasting the Dickel. The film is similar to the film of the cream soda. Some folks might be tempted to call this "smooth" whiskey, or whisky. But for me, it was just something that I didn't care for. I like the brash flavor of JD old #7 over the taste of Gentleman Jack for very much the same reason. #7 has a clean taste to me, where Gentlemen Jack and Dickel have something that gets in the way of the taste of the beverage.

Don't let JD fool you, GD is the way to go in this price range.  This is a very clean tasting whiskey.  I just bought a bottle and am enjoying it now.  I love whiskey!  This is not a mass marketed Jack, Jim, Johnnie, etc, its George, and he should not disappoint.  Enjoy.

I was never a fan of Jack Daniels...I thought is was far too sweet. My brother introduced me to #8 and then #12 Dickell, and I thought he was on to something. Then I purhased a bottle of the Barrel Select and that was a revelation! Splashed over just a little crushed ice, sipped and enjoyed....this has become my whiskey of choice. I went down to Tullahoma and took the tour and learned that they now ship their used barrels to Scotland to age Scotch! That should tell us all something.

A very fine whiskey to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.  A modest flavor profile makes this just right. A best buy in the $20 to $30 range. The 12 yr-old version is what I tried. Haven't seen or tasted the 8 yr-old version. The bottle empties all too quickly.

I will drink George Dickel any time over Jack D.

Dickel is a much lesser known distiller but they produce some fine whiskey. In fact they are located a short drive away from the famous Jack D distillery

Great value for a true small batch product.

Try some over a little ice.

Take away the vanilla after taste in #12 and you find great smooth taste of #8. However, #8 is disappearing, replaced by Cascade Hollow. They say it is temporary, but I think they are permanently replacing #8 or at least experimenting with the idea. No. #8 rocks.

It is my favorite to date. I have not tried a lot of whisky but I have tried some.(Jack,Jim,Old Charter,Wild turkey,Crown Royal, some others)I like it with a little ginger ale/soda. Vernors is good. My room mate says why bother because I don't use much. Excellant neat, rocks,or mixed.

The #12 is smooth and very peppery. Some may like it better than me.

Bought a bottle of G.D. and Jim Beam black at the same time to try them both. I finished the G.D. and have most of the black left. Good flavor and no bad after taste. J.B. black after taste last forever.Good buy

Not bad in a pinch....a bit of and after taste....really have to compare in the under $20 price range....just isn't fair to compare it to the Makers Mark's,WIld Turkey's and Knob Creek's of the world....Good ol' George is better than JD, JB and others in this price range.

This stuff is Tennessee Whisky, not bourbon, but unlike Jack Daniels it just tastes strange. I've tried both the black label and the longer aged white label. The cheaper stuff is better..but both are weird.

George Dickel #12 -- this whiskey is the real deal. It makes much more expensive brands look like a bad joke. Go ahead and try one of these on the rocks next to "Knob Creek" or "Gentleman Jack"; it completely blows them out of the water. Read about the company on Wikipedia, and you'll see why. The way they make this stuff is unlike any other whiskey you get today. Every single barrel is very closely monitored, and they only accept the best. Not to mention they follow methods that are no longer used today due to the expense. In fact, George Dickel is only one of two companies that actually makes "Tennessie Whiskey". This is because in order for it to be classified as such it needs to be charcoal filtered which most companies don't do because it's so expensive. The reason why the whiskey is cheaper than other whiskies of its caliber is because it is a marketing technique. They were out of business for a long time and have come back making the same whiskey as before, but in smaller quantities and at rock bottom prices in order to build a solid market share. This is THE BEST whiskey you can get at a very cheap price -- even cheaper than Jack Daniels. If you drink this stuff and don't like it, you've been fooled by the price.

On a whim, I tried George Dickel the first time about 10 years ago when I was running low on my Jack D's. I had enough Jack's to try a side by side, straight-up, no water, no ice comparison. George Dickel is a hands-down winner! The fact that it was cheaper was a bonus, but I've continued to purchase on the basis of taste. Tennessee whiskys are the mellowest, but George's is moreso than Jack's. I highly recommend.

Best value at $20 for mixing. Best rounded flavor of any bourbon $20-40. Mellowed to taste smoother. Black label (8yr) tastes better to me than the 12 yr.

If you are in to Tennessee Whiskey, there are only 2 brands...Jack and George Dickel. Whittling that down further, there is only 1 that is smooth, is still 90 proof, is not mass produced, and is still priced considerably less than Jack. Not sure how a person walks away from that kind of value-George Dickel blows Jack away every day of the week. While I am not a regular whisky drinker (I prefer Scotch), I love taking a road less traveled. It has been hard to find in restaurants and impossible to find in package stores so I always grab several bottles when I do find it. Keep it all a secret and I will have my less expensive jewel all to myself.

Nothing great, nothing bad. Charcoally taste but smooth. Could have a fuller body to it. Try a small one before buying a big one.

George Dickel #12 is a surprising pleasure and a worthy substitute for those who balk at the price of single malt scotch. Keep the secret alive!

G' Dickel, (thats what I like to call him) a hero among men. His whiskey is very solid for the money - the quality (taste, flavor, lack of hang over producing sickness) is right up there with some of the more expensive brands, and yet it is mid-to-low in price. The #12 is certainly superior in many ways to the harsher #8 variety. Dick's #12 is good on the rocks or cut, as I like to in my old age, with a little water, and soda, and ice, and coke. And if you are going to be a-mixing the whiskey however, all in all, for the money, old Jimmy Old Crow is a better value, as it has better flavor for the a-mixing. An old friend of the Confedr'cy, Dickle knows his whiskey...

The underaged #8, I don't so much care for. Daniels drinkers seem to like it a lot, but what does that say, exactly... But the #12... oh my. George Dickel #12 is truly an EXCEPTIONAL whisky for the very reasonable price charged. Very underappreciated, sans those "in the know"... If it were more widely promoted/popular, I'm sure the price would rise, so, keep this secret find hush-hush.

This stuff is pure crap! The taste is a mix between dirty pond water and lighter fluid, but I did give it a 2 because I was abel to finish the bottle.
