i guess someone has to be the worst channel
Redoedo 10/25/2005
Shows a few good independent flicks, but largely a third rate channel with third rate programming.

It has clunkers but some hard to find items, also.

I have to agree with those bashing IFC, and think they are going MUCH easier on them than they deserve. The most obvious (and unforgivably STUPID) thing they are doing is jumping on the end credits with their incessant (and nauseatingly loud) advertising. That's been covered here already, so nuff said. But then, the people there have an unnatural and inexplicable OBSESSION (and that word is no exaggeration) with a Green Day song called (I think) Jesus of Suburbia ... now, they are even advertising some kind of upcoming IFC short film based on it (!?) ... this in addition to the ridiculous promo trailer that runs the ENTIRE length of the song, played so often that you want to scream everytime they BLAST it at you again, and again, and again. You'd think Green Day was actually a good group instead of a overrated, grade Z ripoff of The Clash aimed at people who didnt even exist in 1979 (and who were in diapers while their parents watched Z Channel). What does this loser pop-punk band have to do with independent film? For that matter, what does Henry Rollins have to do with it? His music sucks and so does his acting, so it really doesnt matter how much of a film fan he thinks he is, especially when he BARKS his reviews out at you like a pit bull (or sucks up to that bubbleheaded blonde bimbo co-host like a little boy fessing up to his mommy). Lay off the steroids, big boy, they are shrinking your brain, and your testicles will be next. The only thing that will be left after that is your oversized EGO. At least Chris Gore once had independent film credentials from his Film Threat magazine, even if he is an insufferably pretentious poseur stooge now (lose the Shaggy Doo pirate beard, kiddo). His Ultimate Film Fanatic gameshow is an embarrassment that no self-respecting film fan would go near (then again so is Gore), and the miniseries docu show Film School was full of unlikeable punks who should have all been beaten bloody with their cameras, to keep them from every using them again. Its ironic that they just did this tribute to Z Channel, and for that weekend, they had NO onscreen logo, and no ads over the credits. Then they go back to their usual mind-numbing, in your face BS, and we're all supposed to be ok with that, because apparently they paid NO attention to the lessons of Z channel (ie, first and foremost, deep respect for the films). It's obvious that alot of people in charge of IFC need to get off their skateboards (Dogtown and Z Boys? puhleeze ..) and grow the hell up. It's time for someone to start a NEW z channel for the 21st century, and blow these infants out of existence. Let them all work for Bravo Channel, at least there you know to expect commercials. Sundance, are you listening?

I agree with the other 8000 people that have posted here. Running a commerical on top of the movie while it is still playing is bad form. Cut it out.

Especially the docu on Jerry Harvey and Z Channel, which you have to see if you love film.

Monday, 9 May 2005 I taped The Ice Storm (Escape from Hollywood). Then, when I reached the end of it, you abruptly put a commercial about your own programming, with some awful music while the credits are still running in a much smaller screen. Now, one would expect that from commercial stations like TBS, TNT or the usual networks. What is the problem? You can't wait to advertise your own programs after the movie is over and done with? I don't know if you have seen the ending of The Ice Storm, but your intrusive autocommercials destroyed its mood. You are more vulgar than the TV stations aforementioned, because it's not expected of you to be so. You should show the movie in its entirety, credits included, as the director intended his movie to be shown; otherwise, it's tantamount to see half of a Magritte's painting or to hear a third of a Bach's musical work. A final comment: Who the devil is John Cameron Mitchell? He is awful. I advise you to change this host.

I have had it with you Hippocrates at I.F.C.. I pay for your service no more! If you executives read any of these angry comments or for that matter, read any of your Bull on presenting movies in there entirety, un-cut and un-edited. You would not desecrate every prime time film you show. The end of a movie is as important as the beginning. The Moran's in the advertising department think it's better to cut the audio, shrink the credits to an unreadable size and sometimes even cut the last scene complete with dialog, just to advertise (at extremely high volume), IFC's up coming shows. You already have us watching but this behavior insures that many of your viewers will shut you off for insulting our intelligence our sensibilities and our good will. Read your own propaganda. I.F.C. is a joke.

I hate this, because I do not know if my previous info made it. Anyway, I hope this one does. HFC is the new title. Hollywood $$$$ has you by the balls. Who else would submit to cutting an epic film short( credits) by inserting some BS split in 5 different ways advertising and commercializing before the theme is over with? You just can't wait can you.. You are becoming thr channel that will make me cancel my subscription. FU CoOp USA.

*** HELLOOOO!!! THIS WEBSITE IS NOT THE IFC!! *** What would we do without right wing freaked out networks who try to put a political spin on everything, censor all forms of expression and bottom line suppress human creativity and imagination?!
pandfent 04/27/2005
THE GOOD NEWS YOU SHOW AT LEAST SOME OF YOUR MOVIES IN WIDE SCREEN THE BAD NEWS 1.SHOWING YOUR LOGO THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MOVIE 2.SHOWING COMMERCIALS ON A SPLIT SCREEN DURING COMMERCIALS SUMMARY JUST RECENTLY SUBSCRIBED TO IFC IF THE ABOVE CONTINUES I WILL NOT RENEW

You SCREWED UP ROYALLY with Farenheti 911. BUT YOU REDEEMED YOURSELVES FULLY with the The Game of their Lives Congratulations Three Stars.,

Great programming choices - almost always a good flick on IFC.
nan108 04/22/2005
I love the concept of IFC. I love the idea of a venue for independent movies -- ones that are NOT 'mainstream'. I see from the comments that I'm not the only one really distressed about you guys ruining the credits/end of the movie. I just watched American History X. What a GREAT film! I am, like it appears almost all of the others posting here, enough of a film fan that I also truly enjoy READING the credits, and LISTENING to the soundtrack that was chosen for the end of the movie. I was very interested in actually reading who was involved in the making of American History X. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS THAT YOU NEED TO SPLIT THE SCREEN AND ADVERTIZE WHILE THE CREDITS ARE RUNNING??? HOW IS THIS SUPPORTING INDEPENDENT MOVIE MAKERS??? WHOEVER MADE THIS STUPID MARKETING DECISION: DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO ENJOY THE ADVERTISING YOU PUT AT THE END OF THE MOVIE??? Anyone who would prefer to not read the credits/listen to the soundtrack/just watch the end of the movie, would most likely leave the room or turn the channel while the commercial is running anyway. So my question is: WHO ARE YOU RUNNING THE COMMERCIAL FOR??? Like a prior guy said, you really do dishonor what you SAY you stand for! What a disappointment!
StevieGee 04/21/2005
STOP RUINING THE VIEWING EXPERIENC BY SPLITTING THE SCREEN TO ADVERTISE YOUR UPCOMING SHOWS, SOME OF US LIKE TO READ THE CREDITS. IFC YOU DISHONOR WHAT YOU STAND FOR.
eatpeanuts 04/20/2005
The IFC definitely has an outstanding selection of films and special programs each month! It would be great to see the IFC RANT magazine return! ...what's with the CREDITS and the SOUNDTRACK at the end of each feature film? They are destroyed!...CREDITS! SOUNDTRACK! CINEMA! ....advertising (NEXT!) can't wait on a commercial free IFC?!
pat brown 04/18/2005
Your split screens at the end of movies are horrific and poorly thought out. The last one I saw was at the end of Fear of The Black Hat which hadnt even rolled credits yet. There was still more movie. Not only that but you showed the exact same promo twice before going back to the movie. The audio track levels are out of balanced and it is hard to tell which side of the split screen the sound is coming from. It looks very amateur and Im so disappointed in IFC. You guys went from cool to some sort of Target promo channel. Get it together guys and get ride of the split screens!
lisaintexas 04/15/2005
fabulously edgy, sometimes very in your face but with good reason--a salve to soothe our burn for art, truth, reality and creative spirit that is lacking in mainstream media. IFC is unique, important and always changing. i love it.
calamari 04/15/2005
I am pleased to see that I am not the only one infuriated by what you did to Unhook the Stars. I also can't believe that you are now showing the credits on the upper half of the screen, therefore distorted and unreadable, so that you can advertise on the bottom half. If you have to have advertisers to stay afloat, fine. Abandoning all former integrity by not showing respect for films, filmmakers, and your audience, NOT FINE. This truly will be the end of IFC - who do you think is going to watch if serious film lovers won't? WE WANT THE IDIOT'S HEAD ON A PLATTER, NOW!!
seabird2854 04/13/2005
Am still fumming about STUPID COMMERCIAL at the end of Unhook the Stars. You have become like FX or the SCIFI channel. I will definity rethink having IFC on my favorite list. I am also going to let Target know of my feelings...since they lose I won't watch again...DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!
dholley 04/12/2005
thanks for ruining the end of Unhook the Stars good luck, you'll need it.
Fairmonthall 04/11/2005
Just saw the Unhook The Stars film. At the end, you split the screen and ran previews of the next feature, blanking out the audio of the film - and ruined the movie. I just sat through an hour and a half movie to MISS the critical lines. What in the hell were you thinking! Let me just go and watch pop-ups on my computer. At least when I get them, they consume very little of my time. SHAME ON YOU GUYS!
mitch0202 04/11/2005
I just finished watching Unhook the Stars on your commercial free channel. Please explain to me why you decided to split the screen horizontally during the last two minutes of the movie and advertise your upcoming event on the bottom half. The audio for your commercial overrode the movies audio and I have no idea what was said. Thank you for ruining what was for awhile a really enjoyable time. I don't know what's wrong with you. I would rather watch commercial television and see and hear an entire movie than watch your so-called commercial free channel.
farreach 04/11/2005
So I see from the other comments that you do this all the time ... Unhook the Stars was great up until you loud preview for the next show came on and ruined the last minute of the movie. What did she say to her daughter?? Is anybody awake over there at IFC?? You pay someone to screw up your movies like this??? Or is the commercial more important than what you claim to be doing here, showing them in their entirety without commercial interruptions. Yeah right ...
vtcoins 04/11/2005
I wish I could have done 0 stars. I just spent two hours watching the wonderful Unhook the Stars, and in the final moments ... the climax of the film ... an obnoxiously loud ad blares across half the screen! I have absolutely no idea what Gena Rowlands whispers in Moira Kelly's ear. Commercialism to the extreme. You guys position yourself as being this wonderful, independent station. You're not ... you are just another network that takes care of their advertisers before their viewers. That was the last film I will ever watch on your crappy network (not that you care).
T. Goff 04/03/2005
'Just almost enjoyed your showing of The Last Waltz(April 3). I was anticipating the last song from The Band when, sure enough, the sell out troupe had to edit the movie by reminding me of what's coming up next. Because of the intrusion, I missed the last song of The Band. Too bad you guys were in such a hurry to remind us of what's next. It ruined a great presentation. I thought you were Independent, what a joke!.
mulegeph 04/02/2005
Do not enjoy Dinner for Five. Prefer more modern drama, less British period films.

Thanks for the great programming, specially friday nights with Dinner for Five and Film School, Love IT!!!

Hello, Thanks so much for showing the Japanese series of Zatoichi The Blind swordsman. The films are great! Ichi is such a cool guy. He will stand just so much injustice and abuse. But will the bullies ever learn? Don't ever get him angry! Thanks, db

They have a sweepstakes that ended March 2004 but the entry page is STILL up (as of March 19, 2005), wasting my time and others' while still reaping the benefits of free advertising that such contests bring. The ending date of the sweeps is well hidden in the rules. The site should have been taken down a year ago. http://www.ifctv.com/ifc/activities/registration?CL R=green&BCLR=339933/&CAT0=46&CAT1=141&SWID=1361

As a single mother of four young children I can tell you that it is damn near impossible to find anything that does not evoke some kind of cartoon character or wiggles song running through my head. Imagine my delight at stumbling upon the thouroughly entertaining, thougt provoking IFC on my local channel line up. This channel is the best of what hollywood should be, artists performing. Not for the money, or the promise of an explosion, or getting to film a gratuitous sex scene with the latest hunk du jour, just for the joy of doing what it is they wanted to do in the first place. Tell good stories. Thank you IFC
stacy atlas 03/17/2005
Too many repeats. Not enough new fresh titles each month. This, along with the folding of IFC Rant magazine, probably means money problems at IFC.
