Overcame obsticals 1) A's didn't get along/ fought. 2) Charlie Finley was the owner. 3) A's were not the most talented team. Managed his butt off. Reds & Dodgers had more talent. Baltimore & Boston had more talent.

Stern,abrasive manager who adapted well to his teams.Won with home run hitters,won with fast guys,won under all conditions.Knew the game inside out.

The only managers to win pennants with 3 different ballclubs. What he did with the dysfunctional A's was remarkable.
