Although I am completely of the opinion that Jack Daniels is an overrated whiskey, it is obvious as soon as you break the seal and take the first whiff that this is a fine quality whiskey with a history to match. I would recommend that whiskey drinkers who prefer Jack Daniels expand their palates and try something new and to those who never have tried it...do so soon!

Back about 20 years before the legend out-stripped the reality. A good whiskey, straight over crushed ice. Let it sit for about five minutes, sip, enjoy. ( the 86 proof version). Go slow, this stuff will whip you if you drink it fast. Can be micro-sipped from the bottle. Don't swill this brew or it will become memorably nasty if you do.

this is one of my favorite 'angry' whiskeys .

it is also one of my favorite 'slosh' whiskeys.

aside from those pieces of data- the flavor is astounding, and excellent mixer, and excellent chaser* ;]

top notch stuff, gentleman jack is also ranked quite high on my list of whiskey and i've had many.

Jack Daniels is not the best "bourbon" on the market, but it is very far from the slander some here have thrown at it. Would I rather have Bookers, Woodford, or Makers? Sure.

Those brands are often not available though and I'll take JD over other widely distributed bourbons like Jim Beam or Wild Turkey. Jack has a very unique flavor I just like, Gentleman Jack I love.

Last, Jack Daniels with Coke is probably the best mixed drink out there.

Smooth, perfect for mixed drinks, lacks character for straight drinking.

Jack Daniels is delectable. Smokey, edgy, and classic. Drink it straight, mix it with coke, ginger ale, or pour it on your cereal in the morning. De-lish.

Overrated and overpriced crap. Expensive lowbrow whiskey. You can do much better for a similar price range ( wildturkey 101, jim beam black) or for a little less ( evan williams, ezra brooks, old crow, ancient age, early times, ect.). I compare this to charging 9.00 for a six pack of Budweiser ( this only a hypothetical example , I've never really seen a bud sixer for that much). Why pay the craftbrew price when you are merely getting a adjunction lager. Same goes for this, why pay good money for crap.

seriously fellow boubon consumers....if you think this "swill" is good bourbon step out and try other bourbons and you will find this is close to being toilet water of bourbons.....sorry it isn't even bourbon, sour mash!! Step it up and buy some good bourbon.

Just can't go wrong with this, first and only whiskey I drink. Jack & Coke is my favorite! Strong but sort of sweet, not harsh like Jim Beam. Makers is good too, but Jack is always what I reach for! And no Jack is NOT a bourbon, its Tennessee whiskey, dammit!

Classic beverage. Say what you will, but a home liquor cabinet just looks incomplete without a bottle of JD..

I haven't drank it but once since drinking a 1.75 of it in an evening. Not the worst, but not the best liquor in the world, far better things to drink for less money. Expand your horizons boys and girls.

The only wiskey to drink Faithfully best if chased with coke though..

My Favorite Sour Mash Whiskey. And besides, Clint Boyer (07) is the man. Contratulation Clint for being the 2008 Nationwide Series Champion.

Overpriced for the flavor it delivers. Fairly strong tasting, yet very generic with little character.

Really foul, gagsome wee-wee.  It's the only booze I know of that tastes worse the more you drink it.

I have drank many gallons of JD over the years, why the heck did it take me so long to find GOOD American Whiskeys. For a couple of bucks Makers Mark is by far much better, for a bit less Elijah Craig 12 year old can be had in my town and is again much better. If your going to mix your wiskey why pay a premium price???? You JD Coke drinkers try Evan Williams. A friend gave e a bottle of JD Black and the only way I could handle the stuff was to drink it mixed. Too you JD drinkers broaden your sampling.

My first shot was with Jack, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

In addition they have these nice flavored variety that is quit pleasing.

Although I am not the biggest whiskey fan I do mildly enjoy Jack. I really enjoy the drunk I get from Jack Daniels. Its also a good drink to mix with coke. The worst part is you get hung over worst then Michael Jacksons kids. Except they get hung over balconys.

so plain, watery, and cheap tasting compared to other whiskies.  if u wanna jus get smashed then it does serve a purpose

cheap, readily available, and gave me gas when drank neat. unfavorable, yet still drink it once a year.

I would agree with the fact this is overpriced and say Jack gets many accolades due to its name but in my opinion this is a solid whiskey.  I enjoy it on ice with a splash of diet coke.

Overrated and overpriced. Would recommend for teenagers trying to look tough. Gives one of the worst hangovers also.

I like Jack a lot, but I think he is overpriced due to his name. I think Jim is very comparable taste wise, yet cheaper. But Jack is still a pretty cool guy.

This was my drink of choice when I was younger. I don't drink so much any more, with the exception of a few beer now and than, but Jack Daniels is known as one of Americas best.

Smooth and velvety. Definite charcoal taste. Buy something cheaper to mix. It is too expensive, particularly after the proof was lowered to 80. JD marketing is brilliant.

Acceptable, a little overrated. I enjoy it when I have it.

It's fairly good, but at about $22 a bottle (give or take a couple bucks, depending where you are), it's definitely overpriced. For my money, I'd go with a bottle of Jim Beam instead, for around $13 a bottle, which I think is just as good. (Yeah, I know, Jack is technically Tennessee Whiskey, and Jim is Kentucky Bourbon, but for most purposes they are completely interchangeable.)

Of the American variety of "whiskey's", I have found Jack Daniels "Old No 7" to be the best mixer out there, even given the fact it's a little pricier than a lot of the imports - try it with ice tea for something refreshingly different. This is a top notch beverage at Country Jam & Rock Jam - or any other music festival Jack is sponsor of!

This is not bourbon, so it should not be considered the same whiskey. Jack is sweet, easy to drink and hard to dislike. The Green Label is horrible..should be outlawed. The Black Label is much better. Gentleman Jack is softer and better still. But JD Single Barrel is absolutely superb. Each batch is slightly different, but all are rich in color and rich and mellow in taste. The best Tennessee Whiskey there is. Single Barrel rates 5 stars.

I'd go for a 4.5 star on this one. Jack on the rocks is a great drink, and is very smooth. I've had other Whiskies and this is the best (so far) and who doesn't love the sight of that bottle? Very good if your a whiskey person.

Folks, to set the record straight, Jack Daniels is not bourbon in the first place. Kentucky whiskey is what you would call bourbon, Tennessee whiskey is a special genre of whiskeys that uses a sour mash distilation technique. I enjoy the mapley flavor, so quit razzing. This is good whiskey, it's only made out to be an image wh*re because people make it out to be. IF it weren't a good whiskey, how did I survive all this time??

i love this stuff it is my fav. i drink it with my friends at party or by my self and it is always good.

My absolute favorite, that all I got to say.

Crap. You deserve a better whiskey. This junk owes more to the Atlanta and the Coca-Cola Company than it does to Tennessee. Move a bit north to Kentucky and find a Bourbon you like. Jack on the rocks will leave you making the next drink a pint of Bud.

If I could remember back to the first time I tried this (or any whiskey for that matter) I would rate them all a 2 or 3 - but that was then. I love drinking Jack Daniels straight or with a splash of ginger ale and as much as I love other whiskeys like Woodford or Makers Mark for their characteristics, but there is a very mellow flavor with Jack Daniels that keeps me coming back all the time. I started drinking this as whiskey sours until the sour was no longer needed and never looked back.

Well, nothing tastes like it. IMHO this stuff is best left as a mixer with Coke.

I have not tasted that many whiskey's but this is truly my favorite way to spend a friday night. shot after shot and I'm in heaven.

Jack owes its popularity to rock-stars and Hells Angels. If not for its rebel image NO ONE would drink this $#!t. However, if one is trying out whiskeys, as a group, for the first time I would HIGHLY RECOMEND trying J.D. Reason-- So that one may understand what can go WRONG when whiskey buyers get wrapped up in image alone.

The one and only. A classic that is simply unmatched in popularity or drinkability..

You really can't go too wrong with this stuff as long as your MO is to get drunk. If you're maintaining some level of sobriety then go for makers
