 | souljunkie (21) 12/21/2005 | She should have been kicked out of the country years ago. Its amazing what she got away with. I still dont understand why she wasnt put in Jail. A true Traitor.

 | GenghisTheHun (178) 12/20/2005 | As I have posted before, Jane is about my age, and looking back on her career, she starts to disappear into a golden haze. I always liked her a lot better after I saw her in the buff in "Old Gringo" in 1989. That was a pretty good view for someone who was 50 years old! I realize that was 16 years ago, but she still is a looker even at her over 65 age.

 | SZinHonshu (45) 12/20/2005 | Drummond, the answer to your question is simple. She could leave the country.
Fonda certainly has the money to live quite comfortably abroad. Her absence from this nation's borders would show sincere contrition and remorse.

 | EschewObfuscation (70) 12/20/2005 | Drummond, once. If it were worded correctly and meant sincerely. Why wouldn't she even try, she's an actress, right?
UPDATE: I've heard (and read) her statements of "apology" several times over the years. Each one falls short of an apology. Usually, she accuses people who resent her as not understanding what she was trying to do. She has NEVER said, "I was wrong to do that. " She has never said, "I wish I could atone for the hurt, grief and pain I caused. " She certainly wishes she hadn't done it in the first place. She certainly wishes everyone would forget that she had. But facts are stubborn things.
Usually, when you do something that hurts someone slightly, a verbal apology suffices. When you hurt, insult, commit treason AND accuse someone of being a baby-killer, sometimes, just sometimes, "oh, gosh, I'm sorry about that" rings a bit hollow and might (just might) not be enough to warrant the forgiveness of the wronged party. It's certainly too late now.
It's funny how dismissive liberals are of the story about the scrips of paper. Is Snopes usually a definitive source?

 | Drummond (60) 12/20/2005 | It was stupid and wrong of her to get into the anti-aircraft gun, but the story about her turning over notes from American POWs is a right wing fabrication according to Snopes. It was wrong, but how many times does she have to apologize for doing something stupid 40 years ago?
Updating to respond to E.O. - She's apologized on several occassions, including on live television in the 1980s. She has said she was wrong, and discouraged younger activists from making the same mistakes. I don't know what else she can do.

 | Mr.Political (20) 03/10/2005 | You know, most of the people on this list I'm somewhat hesitant to label as an idiot. But when it comes to Jane Fonda, I not only NOT doubt she's an absolute idiot, but am also in full agreement with James' post. How in the hell do you think visiting and encouraging the enemy's of freedom will help American in it's fight for global democracy? I don't even think Michael Moore would do this, but then again...

 | CastleBee (85) 03/10/2005 | People may not talk about her films much any more or the fact that she started the multi-million dollar exercise craze - but obviously, she will never be forgotton for her Kodak (and other) moments in Viet Nam.
