ItemImageAlthough he didn't become widely known until the 1970s, Dr. John had been active in the music industry since the late '50s, when the teenager was still known as Mac Rebennack. A formidable boogie and blues pianist with a lovable growl of a voice, his most enduring achievements have fused New Orleans R&B, rock, and Mardi Gras craziness to come up with his own brand of "voodoo" music. He's also quite accomplished and enjoyable when sticking to purely traditional forms of blues and R&B. ... Read More... at allmusic.com

Dr John definitely deserves his name in the rock and roll hall of fame. I saw him perform with BB King, at a concert in Greensboro, NC. I loved the way he performed, and plays that piano. He has a unique style of his own.

Although he's recorded some real clunkers, Mac definitely deserves inclusion for his studio work as a teenager; for his best three solo albums: The Night Tripper, Gumbo and Right Place - Right Time; and for his 'Dr. John plays Mac Rebbenack' solo piano LPs.

I had the absolute pleasure of working for him for a way-too-brief while. I kind of fell into it, having left behind the East Coast and now working more in California (all in rock). I temporarily moved in with his road manager, and so it was natural to then hang out with Mac and his then-wife, and then go on a short tour. My ex-boyfriend worked with him for a lot longer.

Mac was -- and still is -- a gentle, gentle sweet soul. And he's effing talented! I can remember many an evening sitting next to or near him as he sat down at his piano and just jammed. I loved his entire family, too.

HOT STUFF! Bonaroo!

Yes, Dr. John SHOULD be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!

Mac is an amazing pianist -- I don't really know what else to say...just listen to his music and you'll understand.
