First rate. The 82nd Airborne, Omaha Beach, and French Commando sequences were the best.

This is one of the best war movies ever made. Althnough Saving Private Ryan had some better special effects during the beach landing scenes, I attribute that to the effects technology available now that wasn't around when they made Longest Day. The Longest Day is much better in terms of portraying the D-Day battle from the perspective of both sides, Allied and German, and gave somewhat of a feel for what D-Day was all about. Although a bit hammy (especially John Wayne and Richard Burton) in some places, the film generally was well acted. I think that Robert Mitchum did a great job as Norm Dutch Cota.
